As part of the relationship, Microsoft will be the exclusive provider of display and contextual advertising on Digg. The two companies also agreed to work together on future technology and advertising initiatives. “Our collaboration with Digg is about bringing our advertising technology and sales force to one of the fastest-growing sites

lol, agreed. That would defeat the purpose of digg. Remeber what happened when someone kept deleting that hd dvd key (or whatever it was).

Well, time to kill myself...
*pulls out rope and chair*

Seriously, though. Next it'll probably be Slashdot, then Newgrounds, Myspace, all unified under the faceless "Live" services.

They have ads on Digg?

I'm not worried about Microsoft censoring Digg stories (that would be the end of Digg, surely they aren't that stupid), but I am concerned about using a site which sends revenue to Microsoft. It isn't the same as paying for Windows, but it is still helping Microsoft to make money.

Time to check out the Digg competitors, I guess...

Oh Good, that's one less thing to worry about.

It's pretty crazy considering stories vilifying Microsoft are second in popularity only to stories promoting Linux.

Seems odd to me, considering how much of an Apple fanboy Kevin Rose is...

Kevin may be a fanboy of Apple, but the decision was made by Jay it looks like.

Well, I guessed it wasn't made by Kevin, but you'd expect he'd have something to say about a deal like this...

LOL! I just find it funny cuz of all the bashing MS gets in the Microsoft section. Maybe this is a sad attempt at trying to look cool after failing to market Vista well and the whole 360's warranty thing? I dunno, sometimes there's no understanding Microsoft...

Microsoft wants money. I don't know about you, but when I see a banner ad I don't look at that and say "OMG that's from Microsoft, no I'm not going to click that, screw you MS". Microsoft had a reason for purchasing that space, maybe Digg users are particularly susceptible to adverts? Who knows. Digg is most certainly a high-traffic site, though.

I dont get what the fuss is about? Microsoft now advertise on Digg? yeah? They can't change stories or anything. Digg still own digg, they just get advertisements from microsofts engine..

In other words, MS will be in control of their revenue. It doesn't automatically mean that MS will influence digg's operations, i.e. MS may choose not to.

While digg is getting more childlike everyday, the demographics are overwhelmingly techhead, these people block adverts, strange choice really for MS.

I guess MS will now use Digg to promote FUD, so I don't think they will censor stories with "GNU\Linux" but they will obviously promote the ones about how negative it is or how great the MSLinux distros are, and garbage like that.

Digg sucks anyways

I'm surprised. Why would they do that? Isn't Digg populated with people who are immensely proud of their Adblock Skills who talk about filtersets every time they meet?
