it's not Windows, or any of the UNIX variants.

It's TRON. with 3 billion devices and counting, in spite of the efforts of the US government.

Can't say I've ever heard of TRON. How does it compare to Linux?

It's actually pretty good as an embedded OS

I thought it was a Disney movie.

I think the Disney movie came out about the same time the OS did.

That was a great movie.

It's the most populous operating system, god don't you guys study Latin at school any more. Popular does not mean what you think it means, inconceivable I know!

Main Entry: pop·u·lous
Pronunciation: 'pä-py&-l&s
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin populosus, from populus people
1 a : densely populated b : having a large population
2 a : NUMEROUS b : filled to capacity
- pop·u·lous·ly adverb
- pop·u·lous·ness noun
Main Entry: pop·u·lar
Pronunciation: 'pä-py&-l&r
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin popularis, from populus the people, a people
1 : of or relating to the general public
2 : suitable to the majority: as a : adapted to or indicative of the understanding and taste of the majority <a popular history of the war> b : suited to the means of the majority : INEXPENSIVE <sold at popular prices>
3 : frequently encountered or widely accepted <a popular theory>
4 : commonly liked or approved <a very popular girl>
synonym see COMMON
- pop·u·lar·ly adverb Actually, in this situation, I think popular would be more appropriate, even though its connotation is a bit misleading, since most people have no idea what TRON is, even if they're using it. The most popular (not definition #4, though) desktop operating system is clearly Windows.

#3 would be appropriate (frequently encountered) if you restrict the domain to the desktop. I don't know the respective frequencies of other kinds of OS, such as in washing machines, obile phones and such. By the way, what's the scheduled release date for Windows for Vacuum Cleaners?

I am shocked that you imply #2 might apply here: 'indicative of the understanding .. of the majority'.
