I'm up for a good football game on Ubuntu, and would like to know what you recommend. Of course, when I refer to "football", I am speaking of the beautiful game as we know it in the UK natch. ;)
I'd like something kinda like FIFA/Sensi please, and preferably easy to install.
Many thanks in advance. :)

Football Manager (http://www.sigames.com/fm/)runs in wine. It's a management game. FIFA 06 is official supported by Cedega (http://games.cedega.com/gamesdb/games/view.mhtml?game_id=3987).

Nah, I don't much care for the manager-style games. It's just not for me. I don't really want to run Windows games in Linux either. I was hoping for a simple, native, arcade-style footie game for my Ubuntu. Is there nothing? Somebody out there is playing a good football game on Ubuntu! I don't mind paying for the privilege if there's a game I can buy somewhere.
Thanks for your replies people.

There's nothing really. Fifa through cedega is your best option. Or dual-boot with Windows.

I am actually currently dual booting with XP, but I'll be getting rid of the XP install soon. It's just no use to me really. I only use it to play PES6, and that's crashing all the time!
I have actually just discovered this (http://www.xenoage.com/bp2k6/en/index.php) little title. It looks like exactly the type of thing I'm after, but does anyone have any experience of running this game on Feisty? Is it any good?
Your help is much appreciated.

I have been playing Eat the Whistle, it's a little like the Mega Drive's Sensible Soccer.
(I haven't played that much though)

How is it that no one mentioned Slam Soccer 2006 (http://www.xenoage.com/bp2k6/en/index.php)?
I'm not a big soccer fan myself, but it looks amazing IMHO for a native linux game.

***EDIT***
Sorry just noticed your post.

The game is pretty sweet with a decent video card. ^_^

Okay, I've downloaded the game from there, but I'm having some problems trying to install it. I've extracted it in the usual way, which gives me a folder with the game files in it. But when I try to ./configure it says "no such file or directory", and just jumping to "make" it says "No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop."
Am I doing this wrong? Sorry, but I'm a bit inexperienced with compiling software. Can anyone guide me in the right direction...? Thanks.
EDIT: It's OK I've figured out how it works now, and managed to play the game. It's not bad actually, and will certainly plug a hole for me. It's a pity it doesn't support gamepads, but you can't have everything I suppose. Cool little game that.

Just downloaded a top football title called Yoda Soccer. How cool is that game? It's a Sensible Soccer-alike football game, with fast gameplay. It's rather excellent! Does anyone know how to get your pad to work with it? Their site says it works with joypads but I can't seem to get it to. Aaaaand thanks again. :)

Try search here: ubuntu forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=427205) (Slam Soccer, Yoda soccer, Open-football. Management: Bygfoot ... )
The Linux soccer game most similar to the "classics" Sensible Soccer: pictures (http://www.answers.com/topic/sensible-soccer-series) and Football Glory: pictures (http://free-game-downloads.mosw.com/abandonware/amiga/games_f/football_glory.html) ( <-- This is a must, try to play it! ;) ) seems to be Yoda Soccer. If you find other good soccer, please report me. - Im trying to keep that thread updated. Thanks.
Off-Topic:
Project idea: Wanna help in a soccer project (like Sensible Soccer and Football Glory)?
Seems to me, that Linux lacks in simple cute/nice and playable soccer games like these old Commodore Amiga classic ones....
We can even now use the Launchpad from Canonical, for this project: https://launchpad.net/jorgerosa (iSoccer)
Could use pyGame (http://www.pygame.org/news.html) (python similar code) to develop it. (Should be enought, for a 2D game like this).....

Cool idea jorgerosa - are you good at python? Are you definite about using pygame for this? I might want to contribute but I'm not too fond of learning python in order to do so.
