Aye all bets are on HP.
Dell have nicked most of the market share again this quarter, next quarter HP will probably crawl back up.

Dell has to show profit on Ubuntu loaded PC's before the others jump in.

from above link:
"Dell's initial success with Ubuntu apparently has caught Hewlett-Packard's attention. Sources close to HP tell me the company hope to offer PCs with Ubuntu Linux pre-installed in a few months--or perhaps even a few weeks..."
i haven't seen anything from HP that points to an interest in producing preinstalled linux pc's, welcome though this would be. 'a source close to HP' could be someone waiting for a bus at the factory gates!

Not too long ago I worked for a retailer and our HP rep had mentioned that they are watching Dell and Linux very close but who is to say.

Here you go:

During a brief Q&A session after Mark Shuttleworth's keynote here at Ubuntu Live, an audience member asked the Canonical founder if we'll see more top-tier PC manufacturers offering Ubuntu pre-installed. "Absolutely," Mark said, though he was coy about who exactly his company is talking to. He said he wasn't ready to make any announcements today.

"Shuttleworth said his company was not in discussions with Hewlett-Packard or the other top five PC makers to introduce machines equipped with Ubuntu.
The other three top PC makers are Lenovo Group Ltd , Acer Inc and Toshiba Corp."

I hope it will be one of the most difficult platform for linux, so that it will developed, and would like that this could be ibm/lenovo because they sell a lot of pcs and still have some drivers to improve (i am an user), like intel graphics 4 example

It it is HP I would love to support them but there is one thing preventing me from doing so. My mum's craptop. To date, it has been back to HP/Compaq 4 times under its extended warranty and that doesn't instil me with much confidence in the quality of their products.
