I find them little too common, everybody has a Strat!

I've got a Fender Jaguar instead

I dont like em personally ( although I respect their awesome tone for some styles, is just that those styles dont happen to be my cup of tea ).

Its all about Jackson and B.C. Rich for me.

ive got a standard tele. Got to love that tele twang! (although I do prefer rock, which it is equally well-suited for, just remove that lipstick case around the neck pickup!)

Not really..The guitar I'll be getting (well, either one of the two I said above) have those new SCN pickups which have a humbucker setting. :guitar:

..PS: Nice guitars!...I am not really into teles, but there is still something that makes me want one.

Bought a three tone sunburst US Strat Plus Deluxe with a rosewood fingerboard back in '91. It's still looking good, playing better. Had to eat beans for a month because I blew all my cash on it.

They're a ton of fun, but you have to like the sound of a strat I guess.

I strongly dislike Strats. I have a 91 USA Telecaster and am looking to get a decent Jaguar / Jazzmaster / Musicmaster / Cyclone / Mustang sometime.

Sorry to say it, but Strats are so overrated its not funny. I do admit they are good solid guitars, but I prefer something that's a little more original.
I really want a Jackson.
Either a Mark Morton Model, Jackson or a Flying V Randy Rhoads style guitar.
The Mark Morton one would be sweet. Its such a versatle guitar its got a chambered body so its sounds great acoustically and adds a bit more personality to the tone.

Strat's a beautiful guitar. I was always more partial to the Les Paul Gibson line. Like the 74 Les Paul Standard.....great sound and amazing looks. I switched from guitar to a 5 string bass when I got into playing rocking blues and 3,4 blues. The fifth string really helps get a full low for hard rock too. I say that to voice my admiration for Carvin instuments. The XB75 custom bass, because I'm left handed, is custom built and Carvin has only reported a 1% return rate on any of their products. I even picked up one of their Carvin Red Eye bass amps for like $800 with a full 600 watt output. Can't even come close to the processor electronics in the head unit in the stores. Reasonablly priced and they only sell direct from the factory....no middle man.

The strat is an excellent guitar. I wish I knew the history behind mine but I have had it since 1981 and all I know is that it is a custom paint job.
Damn good guitar though.

Rock without humbuckers is not really rock :P

Tell it to Jimi!

Having said that, I'm more a Les Paul man. A lot of people are able to get some amazing sounds out of a Strat. I'm just not one of 'em.

I'm a beginner, so I have a common-as-muck Squier Strat Affinity. It's apparently a limited edition 20th anniversary 2001 with a CKxxxxx serial, though, either way, it makes some good noises! I replaced the pickguard with a Union-Jack themed one though so it looks a little less generic.

Fender guitars, especially Strats, are good and versatile, but too overrated and far too common. Try a Music Man, for example. http://www.ernieball.com/mmonline/specs/inst_axis.gif

They're quite a nice looking guitar. Do they come with a rosewood fretboard? Never been a big fan of maple.

Oh, and since you ask us in your sig to correct your English - it should be "You'll never go back."

Thank you for your correction. The Music Man Axis only ships with maple fingerboard. There is a variant with fixed bridge, the Axis Super Sport, that allows you to choose between maple and rosewood.

the first guitar i bought was a strat, and it's still going strong. i think i kinda lucked out, though; most of the mexican strats aren't that great, in my experience. i guess mine is the exception to the rule :)

i've got my heart set on a nice hollow body. a gretsch (country gent, white falcon, tennessean, etc..) or a rickenbacker would be nice! but i don't have the cash.

They were only released for a year or two and didn't sell well, but they are great guitars. The original list price was $999.00, and I got mine for about $200. I replaced the plastic nut with a bone one, adjusted the action a bit, and it plays/sounds as well as any Gibson 335 that I have tried.

It's a Squier Starfire IV.

Strats are great, unfortunately I don't own any at the moment though. I was thinking of picking one up soon but i'll probably go for the Japanese version of one of these instead, the Strat can come later. ;)

I hear the Jap Strats are't nice to play. ..The string are supposedly to high of the fingerboard.

I have bunch on inexpensive Strats i've tooled around with over the years and I also have an '89 MIJ Strat XII (12-string) that's really fun to play. I have a bunch of guitars ranging from a Gretsch to an SG Special and some beat up old Harmony made acoustics (great for bottleneck!), but even though I love them all, I do end up finding Strats to be the most versatile for me (for blues/rock stuff). I have a cheap tele I frankensteined with a third pickup too, but I wish I could have a nice real tele or esquire someday to augment what I have.

That can be adjusted easily. I would consider the tone of the pickups, the feel of the neck, and whether you like the guitar to be the most important things. After that, as long as everything is in good condition, you can make adjustments for your personal style and taste.

Les Pauls anyone? I agree with the guy who said rock without humbuckers isn't really rock. Strats/Teles are too twangy and cannot produce the ROCK that emanates from a dual humbucking les paul. It's a fact.

No offense to you strat people :)

No offense to you strat people :)I like a Les Paul. My semihollowbody, shown above, has dual humbuckers (Seymour Duncan design...) that can pull off a bit of that sound/feel. If I really need it, though, I'll use the powerful humbucker in the neck position of my Tele, pictured further above. As a bonus, I still have some great single coil sounds for versatility (the humbuckers coils are split and the pickup selector switch is wired to use 5 different combinations of single/double coils).

Is that a Floyd Rose trem on that guitar?

Yes, it is... well, almost. It is a variant that Eddie Van Halen asked in oder to have better sound. In normal conditions, it touches the body, so you have a better transmission of the vibration than with a standard Floyd Rose. You can push it to lower the sound, but you can't make it higher, since there is no hole in the body.

I love accoustic guitars, something about the sound I suppose.

I've got a Strat and I'm not really impressed with it. One of my old roommates had some kind of Ibanez guitar that sounded amazing though... kind of a deep but sharp sound.

If I had it to do over though, I'd probably have gotten an acoustic. No wires to get in the way, so you can pick it up and sound good without hooking up the amp. Plus I've got some bad habits that hide under the slightest distortion but come right out on an acoustic... so I'd probably play alot better overall if I owned one of those instead.

I use a Burns Marquee:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v234/Chongablonga/whiteburns.jpg

It uses 3 single coil pickups, and when I first bought it it was a little too twangy, but it sounded great when I used it through my Big Muff Pi.

I have now tweaked the pickups a little so that the sound is a bit softer, and I had much of the wiring inside replaced (it was having some static problems and cutting out, but I didn't have the coating paint and insulated wiring I needed to absolutely fix it, so I sent it away for a little while to get fixed). It sounds much nicer clean, but the big muff doesn't sound quite as mean any more, so I'm still trying to find the perfect settings for the guitar, pedal, and amp.

But anyway - it is a very nice guitar - the neck is very smooth, and it's just really nice to play. The one I have is the modern, 'mass-produced' version - the special version (which Hank Marvin from The Shadows used to use) has a different bridge and nicer pickups, but is much more expensive. My one is still one of the best guitars I have ever used - Burns don't mess about - everything is paid attention to and you couldn't ask for better quality.

I like Fender Strats, but they are over-rated, in my opinion. Any old Strat shape is alright by me, and Fender have really de-valued themselves considering all of the crappy strat versions they throw out.

Yeah, the Burns Bison also has the same kind of design, but it's not broken up:

I'm not sure which came first.

@ Matthew:

The only place I've ever seen them out on the shop floor ready to try was in some little shop in Manchester. I've never seen one elsewhere. However, I bought mine on eBay from a guy who also had the original Hank Marvin signature Marquee.
