I highly recommend this book: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GEB
I have read only the first 200 pages or so, but I can recognize even now that it is truly superb.
A background in computer science helps :D.

That was rude and unnecessary.
I have the Escher drawing of the waterfall (the one on the wikipedia article) hanging in my bedroom. It's such an awesome picture.
