I installed Windows 2000 to play games one and i am trying to upgrde it to xp, problem is i bought the upgrade version and it is only good for 98 and me. Is there any way of fooling the program into just installing or upgrading it from windows 2000, or do i need to buy a version of 98 then downgrade just to upgrade. Dear god microsoft is confusing as hell! Anyways any ideas or tips would be greatfull. Thanks.:guitar:

i presume it is an xp home upgrade you have (i think xp pro will upgrade from 2000). i don't know of a workaround, you may be better 'borrowing' a copy of 98 or me if you can!

best of luck

It is best to do a clean install from the upgrade disk. When you do the install, XP will ask for your previous OS. Just take out the XP disk and put in your W2K disk, XP will verify that you have a qualifying product. Once XP sees W2K it will ask you to put the XP disk back in the drive and continue with the install.

Microsoft products never upgrade very well, they tend to be real buggy. If you use the above mentioned method you will have the best results.

This will work with XP Home or Pro.
