I searched forums for 'ubuntu lite' but search doesn't appear to be working currently at all.

These are only meant to be rough guides. I do not think that they are accurate in Memory usage but show a rough comparisson. I tried idesk vs rox-pinboard on another leightweight system and Rox won out (instead of idesk this time).
Ede looking to be definate contender for Ubuntu lite. XFCE struck out.
Ok so still looking for someone who wants to create a Ubuntu-XFCE distro maybe make the minimum requirement 128MB instead of 64MB.

Why do we need to make a new distro for every desktop enviroment in existance (Ubuntu Light and Kubuntu)? If you don't like GNOME than "apt-get list" then "apt-get install XFCE, KDE, FWWM etc."

Xubuntu pretty much exists. The team responsible for XFCE in the Universe has kept up with the new versions.
I love XFCE for old hardware. It will run where KDE and GNome can't. Turn on the gnome-volume-manager, nautilus, gnome-panel, and use the Gnome icon theme and BOOM you have a light Gnome.
It runs great on my 300mhz 128mb celeron laptop. I might do that to my big rig (pentium 4) just because XFCE seems to like xcompmgr more.

site down... Ubuntuforum'd?
i'd say IceWM, simply becuase more people use it...
EDE looks like it has alot of promise- if the Ubuntu Lite team worked on it to make it more integrated (give it some system config tools?), then it might be the choice..

Ubuntu Lite is being done as Google Summer of Code project.
The site can be seen at http://www.ubuntulite.org
The spec for the project can be read at:
