Smoke and mirrors.

I'd ask the author for a source? Cause I haven't seen anything that would suggest that they admitted that every 360 made is faulty. In fact, if they did admit that then they would have to recall all of them. Not only that, but unless there was another press release today that I am unaware of (could be), then this story is almost a week late.

Now I have seen the press release on the 3 Year warranty and they don't say that every 360 is faulty. And I have seen the transcribed conference call and they specifically don't say how many of the 11.6 mil 360's are faulty.

The article title is one to pull people in, but the content of the article says nothing to reinforce that it is true. The one quote in it just says that they have seen an increase in repair requests.

I'm glad I do have one, simply because the thing has yet to fail. I think it's sporadic at best. And, if it does fail, not a big deal, I send it in and get it fixed. I'd rather have my 360 than that overpriced PS3 anyday. :)

The smoke and mirrors was directed at the story. He flat out says that MS has admitted to the problem, then can't give a single shread of proof of it. It's titled such that he can sell a few copies of the story (not to mention regurgitation week old news.)

As to the link you posted. I'm not saying that it's his fault he has 11 broken 360's, but it's far from the norm. It also seems that MS is trying to fix the problem (after all, they are sending him new 360's). Smoke and mirrors on MS's part? Is this because they won't discuss exactly how many 360's come back broke?

Perhaps the launch consoles have a flaw. And that the backstock of 360's that MS has is from the launch batch. Can't be sure unless he has the manufacture date for each one. Anyway, anything you or I come up with is speculation, but you won't see me saying that every 360 is faulty. Just like I won't be saying that his 11 broken 360's were his fault

I have had 1 Xbox 360 have a problem, and have owned it since a month after release.

I'd ask the author for a source? Cause I haven't seen anything that would suggest that they admitted that every 360 made is faulty. In fact, if they did admit that then they would have to recall all of them.Of course they are not all "faulty" in the sense that they will still operate, but from what I've read (haven't found the original sources, so treat this as rumor if you like) they have an undisclosed design flaw that makes them much more likely to fail than expected. Something similar happened with a particular type of power supply unit used in some manufacturing runs of the original Xbox; the power connector was prone to break or short out, and Microsoft provided replacement power cords with inline circuit breakers to those with affected systems, as a fire prevention measure in case the power supply actually did short out.
