very cool, but wouldn't it be worth the wait - and just spend an extra 150 bucks to get a UMPC or its asus competitor (http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/06/engadget-chinese-gets-its-hands-on-asus-eee-pc-701/) later this year? i could see if the dectop system was 49 bucks shipped :D

Since it runs on 12 volts, I could see someone using this as a car computer connected to a small touchscreen mounted in the dash.

I have successfully setup a decTop unit with a lite install of Ubunut + Blackbox window manager. We are using these as small thick clients to securely connect to our IBM iSeries server. This setup is actually fairly snappy when running a light window manager.

Will you post the details of how you did it?

Thanks

I will buy the Asus Eee PC 701 for approximately 300 euro. In the Netherlands it is expected in November 2007. To bad it uses xandros with KDE and with proprietary Atheros wifi and wired networking. Also The battery 3-4H life time and small screen with big speakers are a down side. However I think I will be very happy with this new asset.

Woeps, I posted this message in the wrong topic! It was meant for the EeePC Topic.

I followed the directions here: http://jsco.org/dectop/

I chose to use the ubuntu server install, then chose the packages required for the blackbox wm. This creates a nice, lightweight system for $100.

The decTOPs are very nice little devices. I have mine setup and running.

I also threw together a crappy little webpage about it The <$100 Linux Box (http://home.comcast.net/~rtsears/dectop.html)
