/. used to be a pretty good news site, but lately, it's just gone down the tubes.

It is increasing everyday.

There is a reason. It bring attention(such as this thread) which leads to page hits. All the geeks love to come out and battle other geeks.

There is reason /. has dupes- those are the stories that got a lot of attention the first time around (or not enough).

These are the two most recent articles that angered me the most:

http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=11179

It's not because I disagree with them. It's just that they have no point except to scare off potentially new users. I can guarantee you people who read Slashdot and OS News are not "Joe Sixpack" or Grandma or Grandpa. All these "regular" users don't give a %^&# about what OS they use. They just want to check their email and visit their favorite websites. And everything they want to do in Word (type, maybe bold the occasional word) can be done in OpenOffice.

The problem is Windows "power users" who are so used to doing things the Windows way and also not realizing how difficult it is to install Windows. I used to be one of those Windows power users last year. I'm a Linux convert because of Mepis and Ubuntu. Fedora can go bust for all I care. I can't believe Asa singled out Fedora...
