Any possibility that I could call someone that could advise/help on installing FF 7.04? I've read quite a bit (at least for me) and would like to get some feedback and help in installing/setting up. I don't have the time for trial and error.:(
I've just purchased an Iomega 320GB External Drive and was thinking about installing on a partition. Looks like I need some free space and several partitions but there is just too much in these posts and other areas for me to digest.
If there is anyone in the Mesa, AZ area I could offer some libation too:)

I am in Tucson, but I think I can help you. Yes, it is possible to install Ubuntu onto an external drive. The first step is to make sure your BIOS can boot a USB device. If this is possible, you should have no problems installing Ubuntu. Assuming your system has only 1 HD installed, when you load the disk, change the installation drive to (hd1). You will be able to install GRUB, and Ubuntu will set up 2 partitions: swap and root.

Post any questions you have, and I or anyone else here will be able to help you. If you would prefer to contact somebody, I am willing to have you call me, or I can call you since I am in Tucson.
