hello,

I'm going to Buenos Aires soon (Wednesday 4th July) Yeah!

I'm wondering if there is a place where Linux people hang out in Buenos Aires?

In Rosario (not in Baires but near, four hours in bus) you will find the people of Planeta X Hacklab (http://hl.pxweb.com.ar/) and to the prettiest girls of this country.

Sounds great!

I think it's mostly pleasure, but maybe business aswell. It would be cool to get to know some Linux people that I could work with in the future. I'm planning to learn spanish. I don't know for how long I'm going to stay in Argentina, but I got enough money to stay there for a long time and I dont have a job waiting for me in Norway :)

So I'm pretty much free to do what ever I want :)

In your (ubuntuforums) profile you said "programmer, sysadmin".
Tell us more about this.

Do you know where you'll stay in BA ? Hotel, friend home, hostel ? In Capital Federal, downtown, where ?

My house is in San Isidro, 25 km. north from BA downtown. My office is few blocks from downtown, in Capital Federal.

I used to work as a linux sysadmin for a small company, nothing big, and I also made programs in a obscure language called Maude http://maude.cs.uiuc.edu/ and made some small Python scripts. I like programming in Python, but havent done any thing big.

I've booked a room for a week at this Hostel http://www.milhousehostel.com/ read good things about that place. It's near Micro Center and San Telmo. After that I'm not sure. Maybe find a more permanent place, I guess that's easier when you get there.

I don't know where Capital Federal is, but I'll look it up on Google Earth

Capital Federal = Buenos Aires

I'm in the BA suburbs (Olivos, near the presidential residence, 30 mins from BA). I wouldn't consider myself in "the scene", but I have time to meet people right now. My email is alejandroazarate //at// gmail //dot// com.

Hey ! Your hostel is few blocks near my office (and in the Capital Federal too !), an assurance company where there are some servers running SCO-Unix, RedHat Linux and Debian Sarge (among Windows)

Take note of my e-mail address: unimix@fibertel.com.ar

Keep in touch.

I would recommend La Rocca hostel in the very heart of Buenos Aires with access to everywhere in the city via Subte and all the buses that pass through the streets of Callao and Corrientes. Great location. You can also check out www.enterbuenosaires.com for more info of places to stay, where to eat, what to do, etc...

Good luck

Let me know if you come to the province of Córdoba, it's 700 km away from Buenos Aires. We can get us a few beers and talk about anarchism ;)
