My buddy just picked up a 6400 notebook, and before accepting the EULA he tried the well documented Vista refund trick that has been posed all over the web, and at least once on ubuntuforums.org. According to the customer support supervisor: "Dell has never refunded a Vista license", and when asked if all the web posters were then lying, he was told "yes".

As we all know that these many people cant be lying, one would imagine that MS might be leaning pretty hard on Dell to prevent such refunds.
interesting none the less...

they did give him the option to return the entire notebook for a refund however.

Is it still an issue? Isn't Dell still offering Ubuntu as a selection for Operating System?

"Dell has never refunded a Vista license"This may be technically true. Dell refunded a significant amount to my credit card when I called for a refund on my unused Vista license. But they would not take the software back. I still have the sealed Vista CD along with the Vista COA in the bottom of a drawer in my office having never run and without ever accepting the EULA.

I should not have been so quick with my post then. Dell support people outright lying seems be the modus operandi for that company. :(

I just got notified today I would be gettinga refund also. I bought an Inspiron laptop in Ireland (Small Business) and spec-ed it out to be the same as the US Ubuntu Dell Inspirons.
