You can listen to a pretty good explanation here :

The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger!

Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on July 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!). If the increased rates remain unchanged, the majority of webcasters will go bankrupt and silent on this date. Internet radio needs your help!

The Internet Radio Equality Act has recently been introduced in both the House and Senate to save the Internet radio industry. Please call your senators and your representative to ask them to co-sponsor the Internet Radio Equality Act.

It's really sad. That's my favorite online radio. And it's not only them.
I'm not american and can't call a congressional representative but somafm wrote to me where I can call

You can call the United States Capitol switchboard at +1 (202)
224-3121 and ask for House Nancy Pelosi's office. Speaker Pelosi is
SomaFM's home town representative, and you could let her know that
you're an international listener to SomaFM which is based in her
district, and you don't want to see us go off the air.

Maybe they can give us some congressmen e-mails so we can spam the hell out of them.
Sombody sticky this...
There won't be no radio come July 15th, should this action fail!!!

I wouldn't spam the hell out of them but I'd definitely send a few e-mails, ask any friends you have in America to call, etc. etc. If you have any extra money you can spare I'd donate, personally I don't ( I'm moving into an apartment in Chicago next week ) but I've still called a couple times ( didn't get through ) and I'm been posting bulletins on different forums I visit.

Which one is your favorite radio station, Indiepop?

Yes, of course. Indie Pop Rocks!

Yeah, Indiepop Rocks is great, I was just at Chicago last week at this store called Clothing Optional in the Belmont area and I was looking through some clothes and all of a sudden I hear "this is Indie Pop Rocks on SomaFM" then I was at another store down the road and they had SomaFM on too, it was just startling to realize that so many people actually do listen to internet radio.

Personally I'm more of a fan of the electronic music they play, but I do like IPR a lot too.

People should post all their favorite internet radio stations :

I will add di.fm as well as sky.fm to the list of online stations I listen to. Most internet radios today I believe are holding a day of silence in protest to the royalty rates.

Yup, I haven't seen a single one that isn't doing at least something for it, SomaFM did some really creative stuff with all their radio stations though; I guess they had some live microphone feed from a subway system, and one of the other stations had this really weird but cool 1984 like message, really neat.

I`m not too well informed about the whole thing, but is it true that only US-stations being affected by this?
I just hope the same thing doesn`t happen in the rest of the world. Such a shame that America is starting to become the enemy to all kinds of freedoms these days...
