Perhaps you and Rav Tux should have a fight about it.

My boss had a great saying that applies to your worrying about things such as this. You're ". . .stepping over dollars to pick up pennies."

Means you're worrying about little things when there are more important things to worry about. This is a cafe section. Not meant for substance, but diversion.

relax.

All these threads are in Community Cafe, so I don't see anything wrong with them.

I mean is all about the people of the forum getting together and knowing each other better; about what stuff we like, what not, what we like to do and more, doing conversations and exchanging opinions. Nothing wrong with that, I believe. Maybe, the games are a bit too much, but again are inside the spirit of strengthening the community spirit and feeling in all of us here in these forums.

I know...:)
it's not like I don't sleep well because of these, I was just curious to see what others have to say

I don't read them further than the fist page. I don't want anybody to be like me, it was just a personal opinion and I wanted to make it public and see what feedback I receive from others (as I stated in the first place, maybe I'm not alone)

I post in the threads I like or find interesting and stay out of those that I have nothing in common with regardless of poster, since this is the Community Cafe there are naturally going to be pointless threads, non-serious or fun-only threads, it really is like sitting in a cafe, you are going to hear all kinds of discussions around you, some interesting, some serious and some just plain silly :)

I know, I don't want to be misinterpreted or something...it was just a point of view. there's no ultimate judge who decides what is interesting and meaningful and what is gibberish, there are just personal preferences. if something is really important that would freedom of speech (at least on thos forum)

The only problem is that they flood the thread index, making the forum more difficult to follow.

That, and should RAVTUX ever decide to actually start a meaningful thread, I would probably miss it.

RAV's pretty cool. I don't get into these threads though. I could see having a couple of them, but it's just one after another.

Maybe there should be a subforum for non-discussion things like that.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought it was a "recursive" question. (if that makes sense).

(I thought it was referring to itself)

Karellen v. Rav Tux in a no holds barred cage match!

Who will win?
Who will lose?
Will there be bagels?

I don't pay those threads no mind. They are just people letting off steam, and we do get to know something about each other. No harm, no foul.

The cafe is for off topic discussions. There's nothing wrong with non-discussion games, but if there are going to be so many of them, why couldn't there be a subforum just for non-discussion things?

The only problem is that they flood the thread index, making the forum more difficult to follow.Um yeah, not like all the other important threads like my amd is better than your intel, or why Linus doesn't treat gnome better, or why ERS is a freak, or why Stallman is God.... blah

In a general sense thats fine I would like the forum to stick to supporting Ubuntu. Not other distros. We learn a lot about our distro of choice by gaining exposure to other development projects. Indeed they may give us good ideas for our own. If I had distro blinders on I would still be in the Fedora world. Finding out what rocks about other distros helps provide some fuel for the development and feedback here.

We can't put people to a test to determine the usefulness of their potential contribution to Community Cafe before they post, but most of the BS is at least so kind as to die within a week or so. The only difference is that the threads I'm talking about keep popping up forever, further obscuring the little bit of sanity left, and the willingness of people (remember the lurkers too) to produce more of it.

I'm not going to complain about it though. The forum is clearly named Community Cafe for a reason; it's going to end up being whatever the community wants to make of it. If people can't have enough anti-MS / anti-GNOME / anti-Ubuntu BS, or more meaningless threads that go on forever, more power to them, if that's what they're enjoying.

Hence the reason we have separate forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=147) for other distros.
