Normally your DNS servers as set by your ISP but these are often poor at best so many of us reset them to something else it seems most here uses OpenDNS. Altering your DNS can speed up your surfing.

(The DNS are what tells your computer where a website is for example when you type in www.ubuntuforums.org it goes to your DNS server and then tells your computer what the IP adress is for the site and thus your here)
