Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I was wondering if anyone out there has read The Cuckoo's Egg by Clifford Stoll. It was given to me for winning the Excellence in Computer Science award at my high school, and I thought it was a great book.

Anyone else read it? And if so, did you find it as page-turning as I did?

I read it a very long time ago and I must admit that I enjoyed it.

Yep, read it recently and *really* enjoyed it - what the industry call a 'real page turner' :D

On a related note, a fun fiction book about encryption & information theory is Cryptonomicon:

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm about to have surgery with a 2+ month recovery, so I'm looking for as many good books to read as I can get. Any more suggestions?

Ah, good luck.

Here's another for you, an interesting post-apocalyptic scenario that features a computer whose logical components are imprisoned human mathematicians:

Thanks...unfortunately, this is the 5th surgery of the same type in the last year, so it's becoming all too familiar to have to find something to do to pass 2 months. I've done Netflix, video games, TV shows, puzzles. All that's left is good old books, and that's only when I get past the point of being on too much pain medicine to think straight.

I'll check out that book as well. Thanks for the help.
