I am sick and tired of that word used repeatedly...

in JCPenny------ "your underwear solutions"
in Wegmans------- " your breakfast solutions"
and many many others....

your spice solutions
your kitchen solutions
your office solutions
your furniture solutions...
and for the car....your summer solutions!!!!!

@#$@!#

your computing solutions....what the hell ...excel, ppt, word and calculator???????? is that a big deal ????

how about potassium nitrate solution or closed form solutions, or numerical solutions of a non-linear diff equation?

it all started in the late 99 or something when the IT was at the boom...
with the word, i guess, "business solutions"....
there were no solution in the first place though....

blah blah blah

Ah, the wonderful world of marketing...trying to justify your job by making things sound more important than they really are....

Who could forget these classics...

Sanitation Technician (Janitor)
Personal Assistant (Secretary)
Executive Assistant (Secretary)
Assistant Executive Vice President (They just made up my job title)
Domestic Engineer (Mother / House-wife)Or, the annoying prefix fadsss...

e-Commerce
e-File
e-Mail
e-WhateverThe good...it's going out of style.
The bad...it's being replaced by...

i-Pod
i-Life
i-Dog
i-Don't Give a Crap

...or perhaps a nice Single Malt Scotch Netty Pot Flush Solution would be even better:

what do you think the new "it" letter will be in the future? Z, X & M seem so 80's / 90's. I'm presonally thinking "n" will be the new en vogue letter, because of all this crap about "nano" this and "nano" that. It's the new "n-TV", fits in your hand! It's the new "n-Pod". n-gage! n-thralled!

Reminds me a an old Disney cartoon, where the two knights jousting were...

Sir Cumference vs. Sir Loinsteak

...lol!

Getting back on topic, my beef with "solutions" places is that they're trying to charge you twice as much to fix some issue that shouldn't be an issue to begin with. "Child Learning Solutions!" to help tutor your kid, because the schools suck. My roommate and I were eating out one day, and I asked him "I wonder what the difference is between regular rice, and rice pilaf?" And he replied "about 2 bucks". I think that summarizes companies that call their products "solutions".

I'm fully in agreement with you neoflight, the wonderful world of marketing.

If you ever have a problem with a thread just let me know, I have the perfect thread solution.

Some years ago I watched a German comedy show along the same lines, they were making fun of the business English that many German companies were using because it appeared 'cool' or 'professional' so they came up with 00 Manager (janitor) which I thought was great.

its strange, beacuse the word solution will only work in certain situations i mean think of these ones:

in a fast food establishment :

"hi, can i have the big mac solution please"

doesnt sound to nice does it?

i get images of slurping up mecanised un-meaty meat through a straw. mmmmmm delish.......

so does solution only work with "modern" and "innovative" preoducts, again marketing words
