What is/was ubuntu women?

I like women and I like ubuntu. Good combination.

As the description clearly states:

Ubuntu-Women is a team functioning under Ubuntu to provide a platform and encouragement for women to contribute to Ubuntu-Linux, a Debian based free and open-source GNU/Linux software.

This means encouragement in programming, packaging (and other heavily technical development), community involvement, documentation, translations, artwork and a variety of other things. The project is very much alive.
