Is it visitor's right to block writer's ads?
Labels: life, thinking
here is my chat with a friend :
Shewdiz: I had 500 visitors and NO click on my ads...
Shewdiz: :(
Peter: I don't even see your ads
Shewdiz: really ?
Peter: adblock plus removes them all
Shewdiz: u shouldn't use that extention
Peter: why ?
Shewdiz: f** you ppl.
Peter: swear once more and I block you, ok?
Shewdiz: I work hard and I deserve something ! I need money.
Peter: I don't, but I don't like being insulted for nothing
Shewdiz: poor writers make articles so you see their advertises
and u are cheating
by using Ad Block
Peter: cheating?
Shewdiz: yeah, its like ******* a girl without loving her
I wish I could write a script which ppl who are using adblock extention cant enter my blog
they should go to hell, I really wish they go to hell, they are using my blog and they don't even feel like seeing a pice of small ads on my blog . I need money I work hard I desreve !
Peter: you are not very likely to get sympathies if you insult people
Shewdiz: ok :(
Shewdiz: I should go and die. you are right !
What do you think, do you think it is user's right to block a poor writer's advertisement who is working so hard to run his life ? does seeing a piece of small ad on the corner of his article hurt you that much ?
I as the writer of this blog, tell you people, if you don't like to see advertise on my blog, you should not come to my blog, if you are using AdBlock Extention and read my articles, then I think you are entering my house without my permission . Actualy you are having sex with my daughter without loving her .
I am gonna make a logo and put it on top of my blog "if you have Adblock you should get the hell out of here"
I really like to know what is your opinion on this matter , is it readers right to block writer's ads?
+ I wish those who made AdBlock Extention suffer from hunger and have no house to live, and no food to eat, Amen !

Well a lot of people write blogs just for fun. It's actually pretty silly to expect to make money.

Anyone stupid enough to depend solely upon banner ads for their income deserves what they get. (or don't get, in this case)

That's a triple negative so I might responded to it unexpectingly. That's not at all like what I said. Also a man certainly has that right.

Using adblock is one of our freedoms. Why should you interfere with our freedoms? We aren't interfering with your right to freedom of speech, are we?

Lol, ok if that is true I guess I've been missing a lot! :)
Anyway back on topic:
Using Ad Block, or any other ad blocking app, is similar to taping your favorite TV show. When you watch the recording later you (of course) skip all the commercials, that isn't illegal and with Ad Block I can do something similar in my browser.
Besides, it's my browser running on my computer and my internet connection I pay for. So yes of course it is my right, I may decide for myself if I want to see ads or not.

hey it doesnt matter, if the guy depends solely upon the ads or not for income...
I myself blogged for 3 months, I have spent more than 100 hours on my blog and do you belive if I tell you, I didnt make more than $2.65 ?
I dont say I want to make money on my blog to live like a King, but I put ads to pay my hosting bills and visitors block my ads !
I think as the writer and the owner of my blog I feel being abused , when the visitor blocks my ads and uses my blog !
I think if the reader wants to read my blog, then he shouldnt read ALL MY BLOG !
it is not his right to cheat me.
honestly does a piece of small ads hurt that much in your A***z ? that u install a heavy extention to block that small poor ad ?
I am poor and I am getting NEGATIVE income by blogging (I pay more for hosting than I earn thorugh ads)

I run a blog for my customer's and the general public of what I consider Informative,Funny. and just weird. I also try to help with freeware software recommendations,HowTo's,etc...
http://technomage-pdx.blogspot.com/
I consider it a service and expect nothing since the blog service blogspot gives it to me for free.
If you got into blogging expecting to make sums of moola then you really didn't do the large amount of homework to determine if your blog fills a niche industry or subject that would draw at least 1,000+ views a day.
There are boatloads of blogs about getting blogs to pay moola. And everyone is trying but there is oversaturation of the market.
I have had about 1275 views since Dec 06' because I am not trying all the tricks and am not trying to generate $$$.

Firstly, banner ads have variable rates of success in the first place. Typically the demographic that is actually out there reading blogs (particularly fringe blogs) are more tech savvy and not as easy to coerce into clicking an advertisement. So, if you're writing a blog with low clickthrough rates expecting any advertising revenue at all is kind of naive. With that said, is it right for those users to use adblock? Absolutely. The same as you have the right to add advertisements to your blog, your users have every right not be subjected to flash games involving throwing a pie at a clown, beating up George Bush, or outflexing the governator.
If your blog is just a fringe thing that you do on the side, continue to maintain it as a hobby. If you wish to see money for your writings you should start looking for other ways to include advertising, as well as corporate sponsorship.
Honestly, as immature as you're being about this, I don't think you could write anything I'm interested in reading anyway.

it is my blog, located on my hosting , and I choose what to publish on my blog
if you dont like a part of it, simply do NOT visit my blog
if u think my blog worth Reading, then you should see my blog as it is !
I wish I could write a script which would not let visitors who are blocking my ads to enter my blog !

If you expect to be paid for what you write, I suggest that you join a subscriber service.
Ads are a way of helping out paying for your site, not a source of income, really. You could put up a notice to people and ask them to please click the ad if it's something they're interested in, but to EXPECT everyone who comes to your site to click an ad is what is silly.

Make a deal with ya.
I won't visit you blog, and I won't post here on your thread anymore either, OK?
AND - I won't come back to read it anymore either.
There - now you can be happy.
Most people will read a blog if it is good, not because it has banner ads.
No one cares about banner ads anymore. If you are basing a certain amount of your income on banner ad clicks at $x.xx per click, you may find yourself looking for alternate means of financial support.
Trust me. I've been down that road and I DID make my living off of banner ads when THEY WERE POPULAR.
You want to make money this way? Put a page on the AOL community. They click on EVERYTHING. But they are possibly the only ones who do anymore.

why some ppl are so impolite ? be polite plz we are just discussing, nobody asked you to pay me a dollar !
I am telling you I cant even pay my hosting bills
plus it is not allowed by google adsense terms to ask visitors to click on your ads !
I am saying,
I am writing for you, I respect you
if you wanna respect me too , dont act like I am a criminal and I want to annoy u with ads .
you know sometimes sites like Rapidshare full their site with ads , which are annoying...
at those places blocking annoying ads is OK !
but what if it be a decent ad?
if u read me then you trust me, then you should trust that I wont fill my blog with tons of ads...I just put a decent amount of ads
and u better undrestand that advertise helps me to continue !

Excuse me? We're being impolite? You've been nothing but rude since your original post. Also, this is not a gray area, you can't pick and choose. You can't sit there and say "No, this isn't OK on my site, but do whatever you want to this guys site".
The solution for your problem is simple.
If you cannot pay your bills, even through advertising, don't blog. Save the money and put it towards something else. If you use a free service to host your blog, NO PROBLEM. A lot of people like Wordpress or Blogger. I used Blogger for my personal blogs until I discontinued it. Judging by your ranting earlier in this thread (and continuing to do so) I feel that ceasing to blog may, on your part, actually be a public service.

If you can't pay your hosting bills then don't host it yourself. There are plenty of free blog hosts and it doesn't affect what you're writing at all, just what it's framed with.
Also, now you're being a hypocritical. Rapidshare offers you webhosting, for free. Are you saying it's okay to block the ads that would keep them going yet not okay to block ads that would keep you going? They can't be getting positive numbers just off of subscribers. Webspace isn't cheap.
Who is to say what a "decent" ad is. That is completely a matter of opinion. Maybe I don't think that ANY ad is a decent one, and thus I block them all.
I understand that advertising helps keep your webspace going, but you could blog just as well at any other free website.

rapidshare ad is neglecting, you can NOT find the link to the file Easily...u have to search a lot in the page to find the link to download (still it is THEIR RIGHT to have ads and I dont say we have the right to block their ads I said it would be undretandable in that case)
but for a poor blogger who has ONE small ad on his blog's corner , it is not undrestand-able that why some ppl block his poor harmless small ad

June 19th, 2007, 12:17 AM
If you have a right to put ads on your site, I have a right to use firefox extensions not to see them.
And about your blog;
You said Deluge is ugly; maybe its the theme your using?
That's just one little annoying thing :P
but for a poor blogger who has ONE small ad on his blog's corner , it is not undrestand-able that why some ppl block his poor harmless small ad
If you don't find blocking ads understandable, don't do it. But others understand it and do it.
I have never clicked on an ad intending to buy anything. Only a few times to support a site. It is all just "!!!!!FREE IPOD!!!!!!" and such.

i hardly think people are treating you like a criminal because you have ads on your blog! do you click on every ad on every site you visit? are you treating the owners of those sites as criminals if you don't?
anyway, ads or not, you made my mind up for me, i won't be visiting your blog, not because i think you're a criminal, more because you're a moaner.

I think, in order for you to continue this discussion, you are going to need to do a few things:
1) calm down.
2) grow up.
3) calm down.
4) stop being insulted by the use of an extremely popular firefox extension.
5) grow up.
