Heya!

First post to the cafe, as this isn't a support or even Ubuntu-specific question at all, but I've always wanted to make my own DVR box.

I know what software, hardware and specs I need, but I was wondering if anyone else has pursued this and been happy with the form factor of their tower?

Dell had an Optiplex tower that seems fairly slim... ideally, it would be cool to have something that looked good if it was horizontal.

I'm not into building something from scratch without a motherboard, processor, etc. Anyone have suggestions? :-)

I'd go with a shuttle or an actual media center case (they sell them).

I'd have to suggest macmini+linux that case is nice (if you have the cash, that is (lol)
but in all reality, what would you think of this

That MiniPC is pretty cool! I can't argue with the price either.

Would a small case like this be easy enough to add a TV tuner card to, though? I was looking at this PCI card plus SageTV bundle (http://store.sagetv.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SOS&Product_Code=STVHBR&Category_Code=SB), which I dig for it's ability to record analog TV and take it easy on the processor.

that one you would have no problem with (i know, it is usb, but they are supposed to be very well supported) and maybe you can cram it into the actual box!

Thats a shame as I would recommend one of those 1U 19" miniature rackmount cases. They blend in very well with the rest of your HT equipment especially after you sprayed them the colour you want.
