Just a thought. What do you think?

Just a thought. What do you think?

I think it would be a good idea (I have one on my bar),
Its small (when in button mode) and does the combined job of the run dialog and main menu along with other fun stuff..

The only problem would be how much it would add to the desktop startup time..
I find that I can't use the whole bar until the deskbar has finished loading..
which is annoying considering the power of my system..
it should be *click* just like that
(Although I don't have a splash screen on X login so maybe that might be affecting the whole login loading time)

and I would suppose on older systems it would take even longer to start..

just my 2p

blah blah blah

I couldn't find the don't care option so I voted "what's a deskbar?"

This was briefly discussed in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=416677.

Given all that, you still think it's a good idea?

Wow never used that before, thats actually pretty useful!!

But no, i dont think it should be used by default as i generally dont like too much stuff cluttering up my desktop.

well the time required is still only about 2 seconds and the overall time will still be very small as compared to other properiatary OSs like Microsoft Windows but just think how it dramatically increases the functionality! - it does exactly what it says -
An all-in-one action bar!

This is true.. which is why I still think its a good idea :)
Not a brilliant idea but a good one

As it says in the other thread, its kind of a specialist applet that not everyone needs/uses.. maybe it could be mentioned on the ubuntu install slides (I read about them on the forum somewhere as a bunch of slides that would show while ubuntu is being installed) as a neat feature to add to your desktop?

It's useful, but by default would be unnecessary bloat, not to mention the fact that it mysteriously seems to eat up a disproportionate amount of ram on my machine.

Definitely not.
