I've always been a fan of amaroK but recently it has started annoying me with sound errors (my fault I was messing with my ALSA configuration) so I decided it was a good time to try some alternatives. I tried most, and I find Listen to be almost totally superior to amaroK (on a gnome desktop). What do you all think?

(I don't include XMMS or beep etc because they are "old-school" winamp style mp's, whereas I'm interested in fully featured "jukeboxes")

AmaroK while in KDE and Exaile while in Gnome. Don't like to mix system libs. I voted for AmaroK because I like it better, tough.

I say none of the above, Banhsee's the one I use and it does everything needed (Music, radio and podcasting). You should give that a try.

I second Banshee.. it also works with my iPod shuffle where Rhythmbox has not been successful (my alterntive for iPod managing-only was gtkpod)

To the original poster: You may want to clarify this thread with "Which [[what]] do you prefer?" (obviously replacing [[what]] with "jukebox" or "music player" smart guy ;) ).

I think this thread has been done [[x]] number of times before too.

Amarok for KDE, Exaile for Gnome. I voted Exaile because I see a lot of potential in that player. Could someday beat Amarok.

Exaile is the best GTK based player out there, IMO, but I'm a tad biased as I'm an Exaile dev. :p

XMMS is defiantly my favorite.

Rhythmbox 0.11 is much slicker looking than its previous versions, it's been given a Tango makeover, and to be honest, you can't beat it for stability and speed of startup.

I like Amarok best, but use Exaile as it is mostly a GTK clone of it and loads instantly (as no KDE libraries need to be loaded).

Banshee. I don't like it because it's an iTunes ripoff. I like it because it integrates well into my Ubuntu desktop. no, lol, I like it because it's been solid. Never gave me trouble, and there's no confusing... double... triple menu.. thingy.. that Rhythmbox has.

quod libet is my favorite. I can drill down from genre, artist, album, to song. It sorts it almost identical to how I have it on my drive.

Exaile.

It has almost all features of Amarok and it integrates better in gnome. I was a long time fan of Amarok, but recently it was kind of buggy, crashing way too often. Now I’m using Exaile.
