Didn't know there were so many... Uh, no option to not use any? Are these all stored and hosted away or meant to be downloaded and run off of your server? In either case, I'm strictly an Ubuntu guy with no fancy for Web OS. I use VMs to try everything else I want... want to add an option for "none"?

That would fall under "Other", even if you don't use them from a developers perspective it would be nice to see what you think of them.

...of course you would have to test them all out in your browser to see which one is best.
Which is what I am currently doing tonight, but I still have not made a decision and now, I'm off to bed. ;)

I'm leaning towards G.ho.st (http://g.ho.st/vc.html) or iCUBE OOS (http://www.oos.cc/).

I use goowy, but more from lack of knowledge of all of these others! I'll try some of them before I vote.

I do love goowy's integration with box.net. When I'm on a public computer and I need to download a file from email. I can download it to my box.net account straight, not to their computer.

Edit: WHOA This is why ignorance is a bad thing. EyeOS is awesome!

EyeOS is shaping up to be the best of the bunch imo. It reminds me a lot of Gnome.

Thanks for the list, I have not heard of some of these. I recommend Desktop on Demand and Cosmopod. They actually connect you to another computer with x server connection. DOD uses gnome, and Cosmopod uses kde. The connection can be established with java, or with nx software.
But anyway, DOD is my favorite, but YouOS is nice too.
Another good WebOS is DesktopTwo.

A Web OS is a desktop simulation online, that may use a combination of HTML, Javascript, Flash, or Java to allow one to access one's files and settings from almost any computer.

Sounds like something Google may eventually get into!

here are some other Web OS's to try out:

1. Glide (http://www.glidedigital.com/)
2. Craythur (http://www.craythur.com/)
3. schmedley (http://www.schmedley.com/)

Also not a web OS but some really nice Web Applications:

Ajax13 (http://www.ajax13.com/)

In development:

xcerion (http://www.xcerion.com/)
parakey (http://parakey.com/)

Heres one I didn't try because it only seems to be available if you live in Australia or New Zealand? It's a Web OS based on SUSE:

gopc (http://www.gopc.net)

out of all of them that I have tried so far I have to throw my vote behind EyeOS

Shouldn't someone make a WebOS for Ubuntu? I know about Wubuntu, but I was thinking about something more like Desktop on Demand, where you could actually use linux apps on a gnome desktop. The technology is available.

You can now join GoPC (http://www.gopc.net) from any country - they recently removed their Australian/NZ restriction. ;)

Well in my opinion the only two serious competitors are Desktop Two and iCUBE OOS as their solutions seem pretty professional and well designed.

However I guess my favorite is OOS since I'm not a big fan of Flash and I think it is really impressive what the iCUBE team accomplished with JavaScript, CSS and DHTML and the fact that you get your own subdomain for your homepage and photoalbum which both can be administrated within the OOS is a very nice feature (I think Desktop Two provides that too - ???).

In my opinion is the OOS from iCUBE Network Solutions the best one. It offers file sharing, automatic photo album / homepage generation, media player and much more

In my opinion eyeOS looks nice but lacks a lot of features. OOS seems to be more sophisticated. Especially the filesharing capabilities are advanced ... I am looking forward to new features like the groupware they are planing

I really don't see a future in Web OS's...perhaps I am missing something?

I've got eyeOS installed on an Apache/PHP5 server in my laptop. Its great and I can see its use in a corporate/business environment. It even has a package manager that is a lot like Synaptic.

My kids have fun just logging into my laptop and chatting with me through Bulletin Board -- even though they are just across the room from me. :lolflag:

I may install it on a machine in my workplace and get some people to try it out.
