Always good for a laugh or to rub your Winblows friends noses in it:
issue "uptime" at the prompt to find out how long your linux machine has been up for.
My work machine has:
4:42pm up 197 days, 23:16, 9 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
Sweet!
Which reminds me I should update the OS but WTF!

Yes started by me... Sorry...
But I can't understand why you or anyone else would leave their systems on for that long.

I would leave mine on for that long, so when the desire to surf or check my email arises, I don't need to boot. The problem, however, arises when I attempt to sleep. Considering my compy is in the same room that I snooze in, the mega-tornado-inducing-heatsink-fan I have seems to keep me awake at night.
