I live in the Oakmont area and would like to find a group in the Allegheny Valley area. If none exists I would like to help start one. If you are interested drop me a note in email and we can discuss it. Thanks.

If you check out https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PennsylvaniaTeam you will see a section called "Regional Subteams" which is where regions can put information about launching and organizing them.
Feel free to populate the one you're interested in to get things going :)

also check out the irc channel - on freenode in room #ubuntu-pennsylvania, people from all over the state (and other states) are always popping in and out. Join the mailing list, the loco, check out www.meetlinux.com.
Welcome to the team!

Pittsburgh and surrounding areas are in need of more people to work together for the cause.
There are several members here that are based out your way. Check out the forum here, there are a couple of people who have posted, and on the IRC people pop in all the time from everywhere.

Thanks for the replies. There is WPLUG, the Western Pennsylvania Linux Users Group, but they are based in the Oakland section of the city and meet on CMU campus. Needless to say most of the members are students and thus have a different approach to Linux. I am more of an "end user" and looking to get out from under Micro$oft as much as possible.
That combined with the fact that I'm not a big fan of driving or parking in that section of the city has me looking for something closer to my geographic home base. I will continue to keep my ear to the ground for people that would like to form a group in this area. Thanks again.

it might be worth it to stop by WPLUG. Just because they're students interested in Linux doesn't mean theyre only interested in the technical advantage of Linux and not the GNU part of Linux. Students tend to be more left than their adult counter-parts so stopping by WPLUG and putting out an open invitation to people about pittsburg chapter of this LoCo would probably be a really good way to get some members.

Glad to see I'm not the only one in the Allegheny Valley.... Send me an email sometime... maybe we can get something worked out or atleast meet someone with the same interests.
