I am looking into selling my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro to get an Nvidia card because I hear that Nvidia's linux support it better. I expect to get about $100 on ebay for my ATI. The other problem is that the ATI runs very hot and since I am not a gamer I don't really need it anyway. Does anyone have any suggestions on what video card I should buy around the same price (maybe $25 cheaper) and similar (but maybe not as good 3D) performance? Thanks in advance.

Well if you can find a used geforce 4 titanium (4200, 4400, 4600), thats still a good card.

Ok. I have to admit- this thread lead to me buying a new video card today.

I decided to go with this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130220

$148 shipped to me after rebate. Apparently, the GT versions of the 6600's are a lot better than the non GT versions:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/geforce6600g-games_10.html

And these 6600 GTs are amazing. Only one reviewer out of many I have read seems to be disappointed. Video card speeds were lagging for a while there, since the geforce 4200 days (I hate my ATI 9600 even in Windows for gaming) but it seems that a new leap has come with these cards. New consoles will do that I guess.

Wow...since switching to Linux I have bought 2 Nvidia cards. There is the power of good drivers.

Good bye ATI...enjoy my drawer.
