View Full Version : The SO BAD THEY'RE GOOD! movie list

machoo02
June 8th, 2007, 10:56 PM
Ok...so this one is inspired by The BAD! movie list (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=465551) and The GOOD movie list (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=464302), but I want to combine the best of both worlds: movies that are so rife with bad acting/poor direction/no budget/absent plot/etc but nonetheless manage to become a good, enjoyable film. Dust off your favorite B film suggestions, and let them fly. IMDB links are welcome, and preferable.

Here are a few to start:

Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter - IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311361/)
Dead Alive (aka Braindead) - IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103873/) (great zombie film by Peter Jackson about 10 years before LOTR...how far he's come!)
Bad Taste - IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092610/) (another really quirky yet funny film by Peter Jackson)
The Terror of Tiny Town - IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0030845/)/BadMovies.org (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/tinytown/) (Three words: Midget Western Musical!)

Oh man I can own this thread ^^:

Drive - http://imdb.com/title/tt0116147/ - A prototype enhanced human is on the run from Chinese-hired hit men. It's actually pretty entertaining, but the plot is rather hilarious.

Soldier - http://imdb.com/title/tt0120157/ - this is great! Kurt Russell says about 3 things in the entire film ^^.

Atomic Train - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144039/ - there's a train with an atomic bomb on it... I think it blows up at some point. I saw it in French so I didn't really have any idea what was going on.

Spontaneous Combustion - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098375/ - probably not worth the watch but it's on my list of crappy films so I must have enjoyed it (if 'enjoyed' is the right word).

The Final Countdown - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080736/ - An aircraft carrier is sent back in time for some reason.

[Aside: I'm shocked at how highly the above films are rated]

Moving Target - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0389179/ - I can't even begin to describe how unbelievably awesome this film is. Basically this sinister group of people decide to fight the martial arts champion of the world to the death in what looks like the woods behind their mate Dave's house. I think it is filmed on a camcorder, and you can clearly see that no contact is made during the martial arts bits. There is pretty much no production value whatsoever, the acting, script, and plot are all abysmal... I'm sorry I'm really not doing it justice, but just know that I bought it from £1 shop (it came free with another film).

McBain - http://imdb.com/title/tt0102422/ - y'know I think this might have been on the other side of the DVD I got Moving Target on. Christopher Walken (what is he doing in this film?!?) goes to Vietnam Colombia for some reason and blows some stuff up - that's basically all you need to know of the plot. There's some pretty hilarious acting in there, and the odd helicopter (that's how you know it's a good film :) ).

Anything with Dolph Lungren in it.

Oh and anything directed by Uwe Boll if you're really in to torturing yourself.

I think I'll just stop there, but there's a bunch more crappy action films I could list. I'm going to watch 'Team Delta Force: Operation Clear Target' now :).

/shame

Edit: I'm adding one because it's just that good. http://imdb.com/title/tt0457090/ - The Marksman. I really don't know what Wesley Snipes is doing lately. This one is noteable for both the 'cut-and-paste' action film plot and just generally how they really didn't put much effort into making it. There's one scene where his team-mate firing out of a window and it switches between two angles in which he's using a completely different gun. I LOL'd.

/more shame

I disagree. The first was a grea action film, so maybe it fits, but the other two were just bad. There was no goodness in there whatsoever..

That was a great film. It is true that he had very few lines, but that was his character. The only thing is, you could still tell what he was thinking throughout the entire movie. I think it is one of his best efforts.

I stumbled across this post looking for something else entirely... I hope no one minds the resurrection!

1)
The Beastmaster
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083630/

I watch this every five years or so... at least up to the scene were the plastic garbage sack monsters swallow people. Alas, alack, I have little time to burn on movies these days.

This films poorness is extra close to my heart, as I talked my husband into renting it with me once. He sat down expecting something Conan-esque. You know, a fantasy film with a budget and actors and effort? Heh. Heh. Heh.

2)
Cave Dwellers
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086972/

I first saw this movie thanks to MST3K, but this flick is hilarious all on it's own. Action sequences featuring people not otherwise in the movie, the cheapest and cheesiest of costumes, classic bad-guys with bad-guy mustaches, Ator's weird and slightly creepy body, the confusing plot, the joy of noticing digital watches and handrails in medieval times.... aaahhh. With a lot of "bad" movies, the joke wears a little thin long before the movie is over. Cave Dwellers moves along pretty quick and never gets dull.

Agree with this and the Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Add to that a new entry, Fido...fantastic cinematography. And any Evil Dead/Army of Darkness flick. And Black Sheep, the Kiwi version, not the one with Farley and Spade.

Also add an oldy, Welcome to Woop Woop...the only redeeming acting John Stamos has ever done. Good luck finding it though...I'm quite proud of my VHS eBay find.

And last, what's on my tube right now...Time Bandits...a classic!

Flight of the Living Dead (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780583/) (think snakes on a place with zombies instead of snakes)
Fido (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457572/) (zombies have been tamed)
The Host (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468492/) (Korean monster movie, haven't seen it in awhile and not sure it qualifies for this category)
Black Sheep (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0779982/) (zombie sheep) :lolflag:
Pretty much anything with Bruce Campbell in it. Saw "My Name is Bruce" and Bruce himself at the premiere last week. If you like bad Bruce Cambell this movie is awesome.
