View Full Version : Lets get rolling

Sorry for being MIA lately. Life/Work/Kids have all been pulling different ways.
So lets kick this ball and get it rolling. I would like to have everyones input on how we can help the community and advocate Ubuntu, Linux, and OSS.
I am still looking at having a lan party/ Demo Day.
It may be a crazy Idea but check this out....
We get a conference room at the Winfery Hotel to house the Lan Party. We also set up a couple of computers that are demoing Ubuntu with all the bells and whistles. Now while this is going on we set up a booth in the mall.
At the booth we have a demo computer, CD's, Flyers, and info. Then if people are interested we send them to the conference room where they can see people playing games and get a better look at some of the demo Computers. We could run the booth for a few hours, then close it down and continue with the lan party.
I really think the booth in the mall will get even more people interested without the lan party.
I know this is a Big, crazy Idea and without enough people it would be hard to pull off. But this could reach alot of people. I think this is what Linux and Ubuntu need around here.
We always seem to promote Linux around computer geeks, but there are alot of people who are not geeks and would not attend any kind of tech gathering so lets take it to the public!

Now, Does this sound completely crazy?

Yes- we could attract quite a few people in a mall-

Which mall is this going to be held at?

I was shooting for the Galleria. I hoe to find out some info about having a booth set up in the main mall area.
Even setting up some type of booth for a couple of hours without any other things going on could reach alot of people.
I just feel alot of people will see that Dell is offering Ubuntu and not really know what they are offering. But if we have a booth and just show people, I believe it could help alot.

I don't think I can make it up to Hoover anytime soon(Im over in Mississippi, and it takes about an hour for me just to get to the SALUG :P), but I will be glad to help any other way possible.

Anything I can do from here?
