Ok, half the reason why I'm posting this here is for advertisement for my blog, but ... read my latest post (http://www.soulinether.com/blog/?p=4) (on my new blog) and answer this question:

Do you think Ubuntu can make it big on Mac mini comparable computers? If so, what'll it take, and how big will it win?

Indeed, I discussed Linutop. My problem is it has a thumbdrive sticking out of it... that's not very "sleek", lol.

www.epiacenter.com has a few reviews of small computers. Dunno. Just got me thinking.

So why is linutop so expensive? It costs as much as a laptop, and even more if you figure in the exhorbitant shipping... :?

I guess it works like DSL or Puppy, where you use a USB key to store the OS, and load from, but it'll stash a save file on it as well? Or do you have to use a different USB key as a storage location?

I read the whole Linutop site, and I've been hot to trot for a really compact, silent, low-power, low-heat "console" type computer that just uses USB ports for everything. That Linutop looks pretty good...better than some of the others I've seen. Only problem is, it uses that darn Europlug thing, which is incompatible in USA (although reading about it on wikipedia, it's a good idea...)

However, I agree with Cheese Sandwich. 240 Euro = ~320 US dollars. For that much you can go get an old used laptop and toss Xubuntu on it yourself. I think one of the other lite-weight Linux "console" things I was looking at was only ~$100 US, so they're awfully proud of their linutop if it's going for $320 (I guess that includes the 1GB USB key, which only costs about $25-50 ... so $250 for a linutop itself...pricey.)

They do. A subscription isn't required, it's just required to get the $99 rate.
