Thanks, I'm already thinking of changing a few things, I like the way blue and pink look with the dark gray and light gray, but they usually aren't my favorite colors, so I might work on a new theme soon...

that only fixes firefox and the icons in openoffice.. I did that when I was using neutronium.. but the page where you type in openoffice assumes the dark theme and it looks like a black page with white lettering.. I don't like this because when I use color it makes everything look weird and hard to figure out how it will look on paper.

thanks. it started off like the attached pic. the cat's name is odin. we have a cat named odin in our neighborhood, but our odin is a psychopath. he acts like he wants to be pet and then bites you when you do. he also makes weird witch howls. my cat thinks he's a jerk.

Those Tiger pictures are popular these days. I've seen them on digg and everywhere else. The Tiger looks so angry when underwater.

Just put Arch Duke on my lappy. Took about 3 hours of wrestling with it to get hotkeys and sound and everything the way I like it, and TBH, it's no faster to boot than Xubuntu is on this machine. It's still nice, though. Has a snappy feel to it when it's all loaded.

thanks! The only problem with the wallpaper is that I used to have a terminal embedded on the desktop as I had a very plain wallpaper but with this paper as background I can't read what I am typing!

The chess site is great for email games: I am pretty lame but at least correspondence games give me a bit longer to think about things!

Thought that I would post my laptop while I was at it.

Fluxbox: Obfuscated

I found the 'silence' paper after one of those really long deviantart browsing sessions that leave you reeling when you get up from the box. I have no artistic skills whatsoever so this tends to be my mode of finding wallpapers I like! Unfortunately I cannot find it at all now! Okay, I did a bit more digging and found the Deviantart page. It's here: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/42210972/?qo=56&q=boost%3Apopular+in%3Acustomization%2Fwallpaper+s ilence

I really like the two overlays, the blood and the butterflies, but was never so sure about the implication of bullets. I can understand the charge of heavyhandedness, the photo that was orginally used (linked on the page) has a menacing feel to it which the use of "silence" on the tape (over the mouth) removes I feel, making it a whole lot more metaphorical.

I'd probably edit it a little if I had any artistic skills whatsoever!

The other pics do certainly seem to be saying something quite straightforward about power and exploitation. This is lost once the alterations are made to the image, especially with the addition of silence.

I think that we probably have to resign ourselves to the idea that the creator was just making an interesting image rather than having any particular metaphor in mind, mainly because particular interpretations seem to either overlook some aspect of the image (a feminist interpretation seems to miss the bullethole/butterflies contrast say) or flatly contradict some aspect (if it says something about war and censorship, why such a provocative picture of a young female, an image not likely to be associated with war).

Of course, it depends on how deep you want to go with your interpretation...

I can't remember where I got my wallpaper, I think DA but I don't want to break any hearts. I don't have any fancy themes really, just things that are polite and smooth.

I'm using AWN but with no intentions of knocking off apple, I think it's a cute little thing and I like it's functionality so far, I am excited about a clock applet being added and more customization to the launcher applets. c:

Migrating to KDE.

Loving KDE, hating konqueror =\ Thunar is so much better.

You're right, I do, but how do I get rid od konqueror? I think it's impossible, unless i use that "hack" in the psychocats site. For example, the "system places" applet launches konqueror

EDIT: done. I didn't replace konqueror as the default file manager, but i replaced the big Sytem Menu applet button with a laucher to Dolphin with an identical icon ;) thanks fuscia.

It's easy :D

Just right click any folder, select properties, click the icon on the right of 'Type: Folder' and move Dolphin above Konqueror in Application Preference order. Just like you would change the default application for any file type.

Kubuntu 7.04. Figuring out how to use fluxbox on a laptop and do things like suspend and control the volume with the mouse was made easier by using Kubuntu (as opposed to a different ubuntu flavor) as the base. guidance-power is an awesome tool (the little battery icon) and almost all the KDE compatible systrayicon apps work beautifully in the-boxes-fluxing. :) The only ugly one up there is Wicd (which beats the pants off of knetworkmanager or nm-applet!!) because its using gtk to render the icon...and dumb ole gnome system tray doesn't do transparency very well. Open office quickstarter is a good app if you write a lot. Not pictured is the checkgmail package (because I accidentally killed it earlier). One last note: if you like nautilus but enjoy KDE, check out Dolphin.

Stuff:
Stock "results" fluxbox style. Wallpaper is from deviant art, I lost the link but the filename was "Ubuntu_by_djust.jpg". Qt gtk/kde theme with tango icons. At the bottom are Four separate instances of conky running. I <3 conky. I attached my conky configs (it contains a "hidden" folder, don't forget.) Getting the keys to behave in fluxbox on my HP DV6205us resulted in this file:

~/.fluxbox/keys

Mod1 Tab :NextWindow
Mod1 Shift Tab :PrevWindow
Mod1 F2 :exec fbrun
Mod1 F1 :RootMenu
Mod1 F4 :KillWindow
Mod1 Control Right :NextWorkspace
Mod1 Control Left :PrevWorkspace
Mod4 m :ShowDesktop
Print :exec ksnapshot
Mod4 l :exec xscreensaver-command --lock
XF86AudioLowerVolume :exec amixer set Master 5-
XF86AudioRaiseVolume :exec amixer set Master 5+
XF86AudioMute :exec amixer set Master mute
Mod4 XF86AudioMute :exec amixer set Master unmute
XF86LaunchC :exec /usr/bin/amarok
XF86AudioMedia :exec vlc
XF86Launch0 :exec konsole
XF86WWW :exec firefox
#XF86Standby :exec something that puts it to sleep

##Mod1 == Alt
##Mod4 == Windowskey
##Control == ctrl
##Shift == shift
##use the xev command to find keynames

I have an elaborate startup script too, but I think I've babbled long enough...

If anyone knows how to get the KDE volume changer overlay window to work in fluxbox, please share!

Are you on beryl or compiz? That tends to happen.Start it manually instead putting it in the startup applications, or you could use a script that starts conky a few moments after you log on (check the conky threads)
