Hey everyone,

I an an engineering major, and I was thinking about getting a TI-89. When I looked at the price tag (200 bucks!!!), I was wondering if maybe there are similar programs that could be used on Ubuntu. It would be for like Linear algebra, Calculus, differential equations, and engineering courses.

Thanks

Ya, there are a few math programs for linux. They are indexed here on linuxappfinder, (http://linuxappfinder.com/) great site. :). There is also maple 11 but that costs some dough, I don't think ya need it. >.>.

Edit: Linuxappfinder down? Is it just me? Uh, well, wait till their back up and check out the math apps, you can search "math" in the top right and you'll find em. Weird that its down...

You should investigate Octave - it's similar to MATLAB.

Personally I use Maxima, with the wxMaxima frontend - similar to Maple (which has a commercial linux version as well). https://help.ubuntu.com/community/wxMaxima
