I entered the Linux world a week or so ago. Been reading some good books then built me a new system. I accidently started with the 64-bit version of 6.06 because I thought it was the one to work best with my Athlon 64 4000 but then installed 6.06 from a book DVD. I uploaded my backup files and then saw Feisty was out. So I started again a week or so ago and got that installed. Went great and within a half hour or so with updating. No problems with hardware at all.

I was able to get the Firefox Flashplayer plugin installed, got Java RE and plugin up and running, installed Wine and got it working, installed my older version of Quicken that I cannot live without for the moment (Gnucash not for me), and even got some IEs for Linux running (5.5 and 6).

So far Linux and Ubuntu will do what I need it to do. I have been using OpenOffice your a few years now so nothing new for that. But I cannot stream Internet radio that requires Windows Media Player and I can no longer listen to my Sirius Internet Player as it required Shockwave. My worklap top will do it but I would like to know if Active X, the WMP plugin and Shockwave can be installed and how. I know there is a WMP for Firefox plugin available but I have been streaming WMP with Firefox on XP with no issues so not sure why the plugin is necessary.

Would love to get some live pointers with this thing. Any contact would be great. I saw a meeting happened. Will there be another soon? Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Have you installed the non-free codecs that do not come by default with Ubuntu? You may want to check out Automatix (install via Synaptic Package Manager) as the best way to achieve that. However be aware that some codecs cannot be legally installed in the USA. You have been warned!

I am not sure what you mean. I thought Automatix was a compliment or replacement for SPM. But not sure which is legal or not codecs to get. So confused.

We will try to help you here but compared to the other forums we get no traffic. You may get a better/faster response by posting to the Beginner Forum.

To play sirius internet radio, check out the threads for Sipie (http://ubuntuforums.org/search.php?searchid=21147405). It's has a GUI or command line interface. Really nice!

I will search for Sipie. The link did not find it for some reason. Thanks for the tip. I found that the nonsupported codecs and may or may not have installed them :)
