I entered the Linux world a week or so ago. Been reading some good books then built me a new system. I accidently started with the 64-bit version of 6.06 because I thought it was the one to work best with my Athlon 64 4000 but then installed 6.06 from a book DVD. I uploaded my backup files and then saw Feisty was out. So I started again a week or so ago and got that installed. Went great and within a half hour or so with updating. No problems with hardware at all.
I was able to get the Firefox Flashplayer plugin installed, got Java RE and plugin up and running, installed Wine and got it working, installed my older version of Quicken that I cannot live without for the moment (Gnucash not for me), and even got some IEs for Linux running (5.5 and 6).
So far Linux and Ubuntu will do what I need it to do. I have been using OpenOffice your a few years now so nothing new for that. But I cannot stream Internet radio that requires Windows Media Player and I can no longer listen to my Sirius Internet Player as it required Shockwave. My worklap top will do it but I would like to know if Active X, the WMP plugin and Shockwave can be installed and how. I know there is a WMP for Firefox plugin available but I have been streaming WMP with Firefox on XP with no issues so not sure why the plugin is necessary.
Would love to get some live pointers with this thing. Any contact would be great. I saw a meeting happened. Will there be another soon? Any feedback would be great. Thanks.
