This is what I just told the talktalk technical support people

"Due to my recent upgrade to an Ubuntu 7.04 powered computer, I can no longer use my Thompson Speedtouch 330 USB modem, as there is no driver support. I can now only access the internet on" my notebook. Is it possible for you to tell me where an ASDL modem which connects via an RJ45 socket can be obtained?"

I'm not going to start on how many lies I told there, but I'll let you all know how it goes!

I would just purchase an ADSL modem with ethernet, and then get the settings off the speedtouch modem.

I am on TalkTalk Phone services here in Ireland, but use UPC Ireland (was ntl) for TV and BB.

They only give the modems away for free. The routers they sell.

Just buy a cheap one from an online store somewhere.

He's asking them for a modem, the ethernet is a link not a route. thus not a router. if it had more than 1 ethernet and maybe wireless then we can talk router.

I'd never accept BB from anyone if the boxes didn't come with eth

I'm only 14, so I can't choose the ISP, I personally wouldn't get talktalk, but my mum likes it because its free.

Hi I have made a Package to make Speedtouch modems work : and I have tested it with talktalk : it works

You can download it here

http://www.squeezedonkey.com/svn/linux/trunk/releases/

and read about it here

http://www.squeezedonkey.com/wiki/linux/index.php?title=Main_Page

and a forum thread is here

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=445701

p.s you will want to use PPPoA for your connection

good luck

Please post in that Thread if it works or if you need any help

Steve
