Oh, and yes - I always grab the GStreamer codes + Xine extra plugins.

I'm creating a nice shell script, you see ;) I'm going to set up Feisty on multiple laptops, so
I'm making the process easier for myself.

I've added unrar to my list. It looks like this now;
sudo apt-get install -y amarok libxine1-plugins wine exaile gphpedit kdevelop gftp beryl beryl-manager beryl-plugins emerald emerald-themes gnome-compiz-manager build-essential conky freeloader armagetron vlc lastfm libgtk2.0-dev unrar

I'll second the choice for Armagetron. One of the top 3 games in the repository IMO.

Pidgin, VLC, Xine-UI and Wesnoth.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Pidgin is in the repositories? I've always compiled it myself. :)

I always install the following:

Revelation
Azureus
Amarok
Easytag
codecs
Liferea
mozilla-mplayer plugin
Xchat
build-essential
nfs-common
ssh
Wine

I'm cutting down all the time. I used to always install loads of other stuff too but then I realised I hardly ever used those apps. Now I just install them if I need them.

In no particular order, other than that which I remember them:

flash plugin
msttcorefonts
deluge
java runtime environments and plugins
For what it's worth, this is an internet access machine and my Linux toy/learning environment. It's not yet a serious tool like some here have.

I'm doing a reinstall now (moving back to 64) so it's easy to answer:

firestarter
automatix
extra codecs
extra languages (for locales and dictionaries)
k3b
amarok
kget
mplayer (64 and 32-bit)
extra fonts
skype
nvidia drivers
ntfs-3g
beryl
jabref
wine
cinelerra
devede
extra archiving tools

I much prefer Ubuntu to Kubuntu, but I'm also a big fan of KDE software. And we could almost do another thread for the packages removed after a new install. It's a shame that Ubuntu doesn't give you the option of software selection during the installation process, like Fedora (which for me doesn't compare in any other area).

amarok -huggles-
xine libs
gstreamer codecs
vmware player
wine
kopete (Gaim has lost it's flare for me v.v)

beryl and emerald USED to be in my list, but since the release of Feisty, if I install it, my system crashes, wigs out and stops working. Worked for me on Edgy, but not in Feisty. Oh well =/

Bzflag!

Then all of the non-free stuff that doesn't belong in a Linux system such as flashplugin-nonfree and msttcorefonts.

& of course, the Ubuntu Studio theme.
