View Full Version : Any new Linux distros out there?

I was just wondering are there any new Linux distros out there?...perhaps something new and cool that has not made the top 100 on the distrowatch list. The top 100 on the distrowatch list have become a bit stagnate and boring. I long for something new and different.

Again I am not looking for a distro on the distrowatch list, I am looking for something inspirational beyond the ho-hum world of Linux.

Also I am not looking for BSD or Haiku, strictly Linux.

Rockbox (http://www.rockbox.org/) ... screw the firmware! Make your mp3 player do what YOU want it to do. Like...play Doom on your iPod.

ReactOS (http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html) ... Open-Source Windows XP (if you're gonna be a hypocrite and dual-boot with XP, why not make it an Open-Source XP? LOL!)

Hactar (http://anywherebb.com/hactar.html) ... fits on a 3 1/2 floppy disk. It's not a full OS, though. No drivers, etc. Pretty much you can boot from it, and then check out its literature, then check out the source code. Alex is an interesting developer with lots of side projects, and a genius that borders almost on insanity. Really nice guy, too.

Other Free OS'... (http://www.freeos.com/compare/)

Dreamlinux (http://www.dreamlinux.com.br/)-- I will be dl'ing this soon. It has a very nice dock.

rPath (http://www.rpath.com) and Foresight Linux (http://foresightlinux.com/) are also interesting because of conary (package management)

Maybe GoboLinux (http://www.gobolinux.org/) if you haven't tried it yet, for the OS X-like file paths.

I forgot to mention: NepaLinux (http://www.nepalinux.org/) and aquamorph, (http://aquariusoft.org/page/linux/) two cool Debian based distros that I don't think are on the distrowatch list but really rock.

Gobolinux and Reactos are totally different to linux but are based on it.
