It dosen't have to be in a repo to update it,just click on check for update and download the .deb file, run and it will update it.
Hope this helps.

Just downloaded it (and followed the instructions for the gpg key thing), and apt whines about it not being authenticated. Oh well, even though I have to bear that each time I sudo apt-get update, opera installed fine (as always).

yeap, what i was saying is i'm not sure if the commercial repo, or whatever it's called, updates. i still don't know because i don't have the repo. i just downloaded the deb.

juxtaposed, have you tried importing the key manually? i think it's important to have, one of the reasons linux is safe is you download software from trusted sources, if you can't verify the key then it's not trusted, even though it's probably fine :|
