One of the things I really like about OSX is netrestore. Uisng this great tool I can create master images and restore a broken machine in no time. I can do this via a server or by booting from a firewire drive.

Is there a solution for Linux like Netrestore?

seems like a neat idea. I wonder if Canonical shouldn't offer that as a 'premium' back-up service....
