There's a lot of talk around here about iPods, Amarok, and music utilities in general, so I though I'd ask:

What's the best (or your favorite) music player/manager, and why?

Convincing arguments if you have the time :^)

I just recently discovered Banshee and liking it quite a bit. The interface is pretty nice and clean, it can sync with devices (Rhythmbox can in theory but I never managed), you can edit metadata right through the interface (quite useful if it's for only one or two files, still not as powerful as EasyTag though), has a bunch of radio stations and podcast support. Another cool feature is recomendations, if they are on it will look for similar bands to what is currently playing,

This has a clear, objective subject line :^)

Exaile. It's got plenty of features, a great plugin system, and very active development. It's younger than most other players (currently at version 0.2.9 ), but it already works very well, and should be even better in the future.

Either Banshee or Amarok... I seem to prefer Amarok because it's just THAT feature packed.

I've used both Amarok and Exaile lightly, and Exaile is supposed to be a GTK copy of Amarok. From your experiences, how do the two differ (besides appearance and performance in GNOME vs. KDE)?

Well, in layout of the controls/options, they're very different. Exaile feels cleaner, more GNOME-like, and Amarok feels busier, more KDE-like (as you'd expect).

Amarok has more features built into it, such as support for different playing and database backends, but Exaile's plugin system allows users to add features as they need them.

I prefer Banshee. It is as sexy as those apps have to be in a post-iTunes-world and has great features as well.

I've always enjoyed Banshee. Rhythmbox gets the job done well, and Exaile always seemed like a warmed-over, stripped-down Amarok to me. Amarok's very nice, especially when pre-configured with codecs, etc (like in Mint), but my choice of media player often depends on whether I'm using GNOME (GTK) or KDE (Qt).
