I've just learned that a few of my friends use Ubuntu. I'm wondering just how many Mt. Lebanon High School students use Ubuntu. I, for one, am a Lebo student.

Welcome! It's good to see more people from the Pittsburgh area getting involved!
Let us know if there is anything we can do to help spread the Ubuntu word out in the Steel City!

One of my friends (we're in college together) went to Lebo. I think he's used Linux before, but he's mainly Windows now :-/ I'm sure there are other Lebo kids. Your school is HUGE. What is it? 7 stories? One of my old teachers said she's glad she didn't take the job offer there (everyone called her nuts cuz you guys pay more) since she'd get lost every day. We felt pretty well lost when we were there on a "field trip" (the war college thing) 2 years ago.

Wanna help me get the Pittsburgh Team going? CJ Pro wants to start it, but he lives about 45 minutes away east of the city and is too young to drive. I live on the other side of the city from you (Shaler), but sometimes I'm at my mom's house, near the airport, so that's only like...20-30 minutes for me to get over to SHV Mall.

Haha, our school isn't THAT BIG. Although, the fine arts department is so isolated from the building that it might as well be a whole new building of itself. But I'm still wondering why I seem to be the only Lebo kid here...hmmm...I know there are more than just myself.

O, I would LOVE to get a Pittsburgh Team going. I'm old enough and have the permission to drive, and once school is out (June 12th), I can pretty much do what I want (as long as I finish what I am so suppose to do). :p

I personally don't care where we meet (if we are to meet). Frankly, I haven't driven on the highway after I got my license yet, so I'm kinda looking forward to traveling somewhat far away (I have no idea where Shaler is located) - Mt. Lebanon is so autonomous, that I rarely have the need to travel outside of it.

Anyhow, if we were to meet, just PM me. (Or IM me < though I'm locked out of my account because I've restarted too frequently :))

PS. I could definitely get more people from my school. They are just not showing up yet in the forums...:(

Quite a few of us here at Pitt use Ubuntu...we've got a club going, and most of the members are onboard.

I know this wont help the P.A. team much, but I could get a couple of people from Michigan to start using ubuntu when I go up there to visit in the summer. As for here, I'm like the only computer literate person I know so there isen't much I can do for the P.A. team.

Heh, you could show them that Ubuntu is easier to work with than windows, I find my grandmother has a much easier time and calls me a lot less often for computer help now that she's using Ubuntu. In the beginning it's a little bit tough since you need to learn something new, but it's much easier to learn than windows and if they're starting with blank slates then they're probably prime candidates for Ubuntu!

I tryed that with my dad, he hated it. So now I have to wast 10gig of my hard drive just for windows so he can still use the computer.

what didn't he like about it? Next time the computer is messed up refuse to fix it ;) that's how my family switched, I told my mom when the computer gets infected with spyware/viruses she has to deal with it. Of course it happened, it's windows, and she said "fine have your way with it." Now her and my brother love it.

I guess he didn't like the way it all looked, that he was to used to the windows interface and he didn't like the one of his favorite windows programs wont run on Linux. Then I decided to install wine and use it to install his program. Well, wine does do good for some programs and not so good for others, his program was more on the good side of things but he said the "It won't let me maximize the windows, so I don't want to use it." So I tried to fix the window maximizing problem but I couldn't get that working. In case you are wondering the program he just has to have is poker stars.

Wow I never thought I would find a Mt. Lebanon thread on here! I graduated Lebo class of 2002. I'm currently at IUP for my 6th (and hopefully last) year of school. Did 2 years at Pitt as a CS major. I'm back in lebo pretty much every weekend so I'd be interested in starting a weekly meeting or something. BTW excellent Xinerama post Ziox, I'm still trying to get it working using the S-video on my Acer lappy though.

Sweet. We should start a weekly meeting, say probably at the public library, just discuss everything...Though, being a junior and with a ton of AP courses, I don't know if I'll find the time to participate. However, I know of atleast 4 of my friends that use Ubuntu or another distribution. We can definitely start something...Let me know..

I'm pretty busy too, and like I said, I'm back in lebo almost every weekend. I think a meeting every other week would work. It'll just be nice to actually talk shop with someone face to face b/c I'm the only Linux user I know. It will probably consist of me asking a lot of "How do I..." questions.

Ok, sweet! I need to talk to some one about Linux as well. This weekend I'm pretty busy with PSATs and everything. But perhaps next week, we can meet up at the library on Sunday or something like that...let me know...
