I love the the way Linux lets you customise your desktop. So many great icon sets to use!

My current favourites are the Nix_xi sets
(http://www.napalm.ch/users/pushkin/icons/NixXi/png/)

http://ubuntuforums.org/g/images/167727/1_ScreenshotNix_xi.png

and "Buuf" (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=44539)

What are your favourites and where did you get them?

Nix_xi is great, any way to install it as an icon theme?

I use gnome corsair, goes well with my black theme (smoked glass GTK 2).

Heres a link, (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/GnomeCorsair+-+Black+and+All+black?content=49487) sorry I don't have a nice lil table of em like mr. fancy tux :p.

The icon sets you posted are really nice, but I think their a bit bright and colorful for my dark theme...

That first set is really cool. Where can I get it? The link takes me to some ftp site.

I'm using the svn version of the KDE 4 Oxygen icons. They are great! :)

I just downloaded the Nix icons individually from the ftp site and keep them in a series of folders on a spare partition. I particularly like the folder and drive icons because you can edit them in Gimp with your own labels or inlays. I haven't seen a complete theme with this look.

And as for
I don't have a nice lil table of em like mr. fancy tux

They are just screenshots of part of a nautilus folder in thumbnail view. From now on I'll only post ASCII art mockups.=P~

For installing Buuf,

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/38433725/

http://www.deviantart.com/download/38433725/buuf_theme_tar.bz2

1. Download the .tar.bz2 from there.

2. Extract the file, and it wil have another tar file.

3. create a folder in your .icons folder called Buuf and extract the contents of the second tar file there.

4. Go to your themes, and it should be here.

Enjoy!

*jaw drops*

Why couldn't it be like everything else where you either (Gnome) drag it into the theme manager or (KDE) click install theme and select the tarball.

I think the reason is that they wanted it to b compatible with all linux distros, so they didn't make it compatible with just one. It took me a little bit of tinkering before I got that to work

I alternate between NuoveXT and GANT (http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/GANT+for+KDE?content=56512).

I wanna see more favorites.
I'm really undecided as to what I like.
I wish Innex was available for my desktop.

I like the default Human icons...and to match the different colors of all the gtk-2.0 themes that I use, I installed these two Human icon packs from Gnome-Looks.org:

Human_Effect: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Human+Effect+Pack?content=46012

Human_Ultra_Effect: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Human+Ultra+Pack?content=46010

I like Dropline Neu! I've been using it since 6.06 and I find it hard to use anything else. It has that "gummy" look of Tango, but just has a more professional look to it overall.

Am I the only one that loves the Somatic (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Somatic?content=64638) icons? It has all these odd application icons (see first attachment) -- very creative -- but I like it especially for its excellent white folder icons (see second attachment).

In the past I was hooked on etiquette (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Etiquette+Icons?content=19853) (its mime-type icons are among the best I've ever seen), the human ultra series, and nuoveXT-1.6.

I'm a big Still Life (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Still+Life?content=22914) fan but it's not been updated for 1,5 years...

It's cleaner than the toy story feel of Tango although Tango is probably my second favourite! (FTW is deprecated btw)

I use my computer for my work, which means I rarely see the desktop, only when I login or switch to an empty desktop. Generally I see the full-screen documents opened in OpenOffice, or the website I am viewing through a browser. So no, it doesn't really cause any problems to me. I quite like the white :-)

I change my GTK and Metacity themes pretty often, but I never change my icon theme, because Human is far and away the best icon theme I've seen. (No need for a screenshot, since it's Ubuntu's default theme as of version 6.06.)
