I was quite surprised when I saw the following posts on the suse forums after some google search. Looks like only positive opinions and almost no negative ones...

Best gnome distro (http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=13714)
Best gnome apps on Ubuntu (http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=13767)
There is even a whole section of the forums dedicated to other linux distro's!

And another link, a great list of bookmarks on linux/open source:

I've been running Ubuntu on my laptop for a couple of months, and just this weekend I switched my desktop machine. What was I running before? Gentoo. While Gentoo is great in terms of custom installs and whatnot, I finally got a bit tired of waiting for apps to compile and dealing with related items. I just want a system where I don't need to worry about compiles, and I don't need to mess around with configuration files all that often.

Gentoo is a great distro, but it's not for me anymore. Ubuntu is my home now heh.
