Hi

What is the best theme for windows decoration, icons and background in your opinion? And where can I download it? Please share your views.

I happen to like the Clear Looks theme with Tango icons. They're already installed. Just open the theme manager to find them.

I like the Murrine Engine with Clearlooks colors, and Tango icons.

I have yet to find good window borders for Metacity. I have a good theme for Beryl, but it is WSODing at the moment.

i think the best gnome themes are the ones that i make ;).

no, seriously, i thunk the best theme engine is probably murrine. but nothing can beat the pixbuf and SVG engines for creativity.

one of my favourites has got to be the Neutronium themes. they're dark, but very easy on the eye.
the best icons are probably Buuf, snowish, and Nerdy-lines.
the best metacity's are perhaps candido-selected and VistaRevisedDark.

If you ask me, the gnome applications theme "PenOSmaster" and the "lila" icon theme are nice.
Here's a screenshot.

As for the window decorations... I quite like "amigarelief", but I guess it's a kind of style that only a few can like.

Ummmm, I like smoked glass. And its not a look alike for Vista or MacOSX which makes me feel great :D

Here (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Smoked+Glass+v0.9.5?content=27141) it is if you want it. Only thing I find a bit odd is the icon set, I changed it to human but I need to find something that fits better... prolly something on gnome look.

Murrina Eroica - http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Murrina+Eroica?content=55399

A stunning masterpiece.

I cannot recommend any metacities, emeralds, or icon sets. That is way to subjective IMO, but the Murrine Engine easily tops em all, and Eroica is one of her most elegant offerings.

I would love someone to get the DreamLinux icons and themes to work with Ubuntu. :KS

I feel the same way, I like to use my own themes, all though, I do pay attention to other people's themes, and I must say that the Murrina Eroica theme that was posted above, was really cool looking. I have also seen a couple of themes on the Xfce-Look.org page that I think looked really nice and original.

These are the links: http://www.xfce-look.org/content/show.php/Reuben?content=56023

and: http://www.xfce-look.org/content/show.php/etude-8?content=57809

....as for my theme, well, I've made a bunch of them for xubuntu and the gtk2-engines-xfce engine, this is my favorite that I have put on Xfce.Look.org: http://www.xfce-look.org/content/show.php/Xfce-milk?content=58257

I call it Xfce-milk but it's not an Apple milk theme. I called it Xfce-milk because I used a picture of real milk being poured out of the carton to get the color #F0F2E7. I then used that color for my bg[normal]) and a few other places in my gtkrc.

I don't claim this to be the "best theme" out there, but it is the theme I like to use, this is my Xfce-milk:

My view is that if you want your desktop to look fancy, then KDE is the way to go.

If you want your desktop to be simple and stay out of your way, while you are doing real work, then you win!
