I like this forum and all the how-to that I can find inside of it... but I think that it's still a little help for anyone looking for an application. I had an idea and I want to talk about it with you: I think we should create a sort of wiki where we can upload ubuntuforum's how-to (an write other things).... I mean, it should speak about the most recent and used apps with all the description of repos and where to download debs.
I already know our community wiki, but I'm thinking about a thing that cannot be done with universe repos and that depends on what the community like (like linking and speaking about pidigin debs). What do you think about? (of course you can just say that we don't need another wiki and that we need to work more on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/)

Have you seen http://doc.gwos.org/ ?
That seems to be most of what you're looking for
