I think there is missing some documentation for Ubuntu.
Don't get me wrong, I found it easy installing Ubuntu and the documentation for me was perfect, but I've been working with computers for 10 years.
I try as good as I can to do my part and contribute by helping people in this forum and this other day this question came up about the documentation for Installing Ubuntu from a scared Noob who did'nt have a clue about Linux.
I started searching the www.ubuntu.com, goolge and this forum.
..OK I only searched for about 10min or so, but I see myself as a person who know where to search. I found nothing!
..not entirely correct, I found a guide to install from the net, and other documentation that would help me, who know a lot before I start.
So... I have a suggestion. There should be a Complete newbee guide linked from the front page at Ubuntu.com telling something like this:
If you are new to Linux and Ubuntu, read this to get you started.
Lets build a simple guide together, contribute small parts each and make this guide.
1.) First of all we need some suggestions of what is the first problems / desitions fresh installers meet.
2.) Then we need to write som text about this
3.) And last we need to put it together, I can take that responsibuility.
Lets have a brainstorming and put some thoughts down here.
EDIT: I'm talking about a simple installation guide. Maybe something like:
1.) Obtaining Ubuntu
2.) How to create an empty partition, install a new disk
3.) Howto set Boot from CD in Bios
4.) Supported network cards / modems supported during Installation, Common network problems, howto fix etc.
5.) And last... a coupple of links to be the first to visit, like this forum, wiki, ubutuguide.
Nothing more then this.
Everybody who write somthing or come with a solution should have the credit for it.
