Hi!
Alot of weeks ago I requested to receive the Ubuntu 7.04 CDs.
I am from Italy and so the CDs just arrived yesterday since.... I don't even remember which month was I requested them.

The funny thing is that I received BENDED SMASHED CDs. Take a look:

http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/8837/dsc02033an9.th.jpg (http://img513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc02033an9.jpg) http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/8152/dsc02034gv2.th.jpg (http://img514.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc02034gv2.jpg) http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/9170/dsc02035ho1.th.jpg (http://img522.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc02035ho1.jpg) http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/723/dsc02036iw6.th.jpg (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc02036iw6.jpg)

Why don't you ship them with some more strong package?? At least for international shippings....
What shall I do? I have waited so much time for them and now I should request them again and wait another 10 or more weeks??

Please let me know. Thank you all.

Just how much did you pay for those CDs and what do you think you are owed ?

Either go download it yourself or if you have a slow internet connection, purchase it for a minimum fee if you can't wait for it.

That is such a shame, I hope no one has broken those CDs on purpose.

Wow that really sucks :S

I guess all you can do is request some more or download it yourself. I suppose you could report it to your post office.

I have requeted them for free, but if I wait 2 months for these cd they should at least arrive safe!!
"Free" does not mean that I wait 2 months and then they arrive smashed!!

Should I request them again or in these cases there is some kind of form to fill to request some fast shipping replacements?
I think I have waited enough for them... even if they are for free!

It's not Canonical / Ubuntu who smashed your CDs - it's the postal service's job to keep the packages safe during transit. Request them again. There's no 'guarantee' that they'll be safely delivered - for that you'll need to pay for special delivery. Ubuntu doesn't control the postal service :/

Mmmm.... maybe I turned mad with no real reason. They are still cds......

I'll try to see the shipping prices and decide....

Thank you.

Look on the bright side: Now you'll get Feisty instead of Edgy.

It's faster to download the CDs, even on dialup. :P

You couldn't have waited two months for 7.04. It came out less than a month ago, and ShipIt wasn't offering them until they were released.

How did you have to wait 10 weeks when 7.04 only came out 3 weeks ago?

It's not Ubuntu/Canonical's fault for having bad post service at your area. And, the only reason they took so long, is because you ordered them before Feisty was released, so it took sometime for Feisty to be released, then for them to send it. And it's free, you can't really be that mad at them :P

It can be so frustrating. I ordered parts for prototype machinery being built in the machine shop I used to work in, and there was nothing more frustrating than when those critical parts would come looking as though they'd been run over by a towmotor! I tried to go back on UPS for it, but it plainly states in their 'manual', that the shipper is responsible for packaging things in such a way so as to protect it against ANY eventuality. Translation: Got smashed by our gorillas in the back? Tough luck.

Ask someone from your country to maybe burn and mail you one? Perhaps there is a LUG in your area somewhere so they could help you. It sux but really there isn't much you can do save for packaging them in the same material they use for black boxes on the planes.

Wait! What? You get stickers....??? Aw, mannnnn....

But seriously, it is an unfortunate trade off. To offer them for free, they can't spend a fortune on shipping materials. Yes, your CDs and shipping was not a fortune. But, all the free CDs I imagine they do ship.....

And, it is also unfortunate to find out the US Postal Service, and their competitors here, aren't the only ones who apparently have forgotten what their job is and seem to enjoy trashing the occasional piece of mail.

I hope something works out for you soon, though.

It looks like someone placed something sharp and heavy on top of the package.

My advice is to use a browser like Opera to download 7.04. Opera is nice, because it allows you to pause a download and pick up at the same place. That way if your connection drops, (like dial-up is known to do), you don't have to restart the download.

I don't know what to say. I think it's only bad luck. I've received my cd's last week and they were perfectly ok, and I live in Romania so the package had to travel a longer distantce. I never had any problem with shipit cd's from ubuntu

The ones I received were in a box(I ordered 30 last time) and they were still kinda beat up from our postal service, but there is hope! There is an Italian LoCo team! The link for the page(in Italian) of team members is http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/GruppoLoCoteam and if you get in contact with them they'll probably be happy to burn and send you a CD or 2.

That sucks...
But it looks like they were packaged very well.
The postal service must have treated them very badly, to destroy them like that.
Italian postal service has a real bad reputation, I can see why.

Wow! That's some seriously mangled CDs!! Like some others, I think maybe someone (maybe some M$ fanboi) has some serious hate going on there. Did you ever get any of your postal carriers mad at you? :(

I got my CDs today and the packaging was crisp and like new.

Ouch ouch ouch... my heart cries for those poor, broken cds. :p

But look on the bright side! You have tons of users now offering to send you free cds. :D

Hmmm... to those who're complaining to the user, maybe he/she doesn't have a cd-writer or a very fast connection.

Call me radical, ask the admins to demod me (oh wait I retired from modding) but it sounds like a hoax.

fun anyway.

my apologies for being cynical

If it's not a hoax, then it's just plain bad luck, Sun is also shipping free CD's see how they turn out. ;)

Sun's OpenSolaris discs are packed in sturdier packages, but be aware that OpenSolaris is more difficult to use than Linux.
