Ubunto Open Learning Forum

The concept of community expressed by the term Ubuntu, and the concept of open source applied learning, an ideal platform to help students of all ages fight for their right to learn. The target audience of such a site would be the grade school, high school, or university student who finds that the classroom structure does not fully incorporate their particular learning style, as well as the adult learner who wants to review a topic. This proposed forum would reach that audience through the use of student participation, volunteer counselors, and multimedia.

1. Student Participation - After the outline of a topic is presented students would research and contribute articles written under the guidance of volunteer counselors. In this way the students not only gain experience in writing, they become the teacher.

2. Volunteer Counselors - Those experienced in a field and willing to help the students in their effort to improve their repertoire of techniques in research, communications, and learning skills. There would also be a need for volunteers willing to create audio recordings of the student's articles and classic books for use with the multimedia.
3. Multimedia – under the principle that every student has different strengths in learning an area devoted to multimedia would be beneficial. This would start with recordings of presented text that the students can use in the manor that best benefits their learning style. Later, as resources become available, it would include multimedia programs written for Linux.

To tie in to Edubuntu why not have a tutorial feature which relates to students learning within the learning environment, school or homeschooling, how to improve their learning schools, and how to overcome their lack of confidence brought about by mass teaching methods?

This is an initial proposal, any assistance in refining it by others willing to volunteer for the forum would be welcome.
