It's discussed on Slashdot that CNN video is now free. But the javascript is incorrectly reporting that your Firefox browser on Linux doesn't have the right plugin to view the video. We can use this feedback form (http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form9a.html) to request they revisit their code & either fix it or allow the enduser the option to select their settings. The form to make this request is linked below.

Please take the time to fill it out and tell others.

I think this would be the easy way of doing that: MediaPlayerConnectivity extension

I can confirm mplayerplug-in 2.70 works fine with my firefox and cnn video. Its is the backports repo. You may also have to install the win32codecs package as well since the media is wmv 9.

hrm, I'm using the xine hack - prob*ly the prob.

still think we should use their contact form to voice our opinion that users ought to be able to select prefs - just a thought

I'm using the Totem Mozilla plugin, and it doesn't seem work. I can't bypass the stupid "You must install WMP screen", either, unlike what some people at /. have claimed.

Got it all to work here with no issues. mplayer plugin 2.85
