Hi im a part owner of a cybercafe

Well... i was wondering if anyone has used any linux distro in a cybercafe before(particularly ubuntu though)
We currently have 24 computers running winxp with deepfreeze, and we will soon be getting 2 more. We were considering/going to install ubuntu, but i would just like to know what others have done, what software they used, how they would integrate it into a system like ours.

If you dont know what deep freeze is, it basically makes a virtual hard disk and makes a copy of the installed system, attaches itself to the windows kernal and tells windows to use the virtual install( unless in thaw mode), enabling the user complete freedom to do what they want with the pc, but once it reboots its back to how it was before they started, without any sign of them being there.

Is there anything like this for linux? if not, any alternatives?

Thanks to anyone that takes an interest and replys

Dan

I'm a big fan of DeepFreeze. I use it to manage the computer systems on a college campus spanning a total of 450 computers. There are another fifty computers which do not use DeepFreeze and instead uses a Linux distribution of the month (part of the class). Out of all the computer systems we have, the ones without any software problems are in the Linux labs. Food for thought.

I own cyber cafe too, and I am also a free lancer, I've setup a internet kiosk for a several hotel in east coast malaysia, and my solution for them was LTSP. One of my client is Residence Inn Cherating (http://www.ric.com.my), the first time was in 2003 using SuSE Linux and the second time was this year in April.

The Spec For Server is:
- 1 IBM E-Server 3Ghz Server
- 1GB DDR Memory
- 240GB Sata HD
- Kubuntu Linux Edgy
- CCL (http://ccl.sf.net) for cafe Point Of Sales system and to lock client screen

The Spec For Client
- 4 Unit Workstation
- AMD Sempron 1.6Ghz
- 256MB DDR Memory
- Floppy Drive
- CDROM
- Boot via PXE

Right now I was setup a blog and a forum for cyber cafe owner called OSSCC (http://www.osscc.org) stand for Open Source Sotware Cyber Cafe, it was meant to be anyone who like to share their opinion and experiences in building, setup, design, discussing in how to running a cyber cafe base on open source software and linux..
